Default What Transformers will mean for HD DVD

As the release date of Transformers looms ( I am using the term loosely)nearer it has got me thinking about what Transformers being HD DVD exclusive actually means. What will the sales do for HD DVD maybe Casino Royal numbers (what were Casino Royals Blu Ray numbers by the way), while that is nothing sneeze at, Transformers might nulify the sales for Casino Royale that is probably the best they can hope for.

Upcoming Blu exclusives

Master and Commander
Simpons Movie
Live Free or Die Hard
Independence Day
Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End
Ratatouille
Superbad

Plus Warner Brothers still owe us

The Matrix Trilogy
and Batman Begins

I dont think anyone really doubts that "Transformer" will have a great first week in stores. But will it be enough to get people to buy HD-DVD players at the same time? Some probably will, but I dont think it will bring in the crowd that HD-DVD really needs to stay on the same footing as BD. To me it seems like there is a cap in the market around 150k for HD-DVD (based on the "300" numbers). So based on that I think we will see a similar sales curve for "Transformers" as "300" on HD-DVD, perhaps slightly higher. But it will be completely crushed by the big BD titles following it, no doubt in my mind.

I think the format war has a long way to go, but blu will come up on top in the end, but "a few months of life support" is a unacurate statement. It will take time. I think the bourne Supreamacy will help HD DVD more than transformers, thats what is scary.

GO BLU!

Oh, it's going to be big for HD-DVD, everyone and there brother is going to buy it to try to show the format is for real. They may win 1 week, but not by much. After that it will sink into the depths of hell. All will be forgotten by years end, and total sales are what matters, not blips in the charts.
