Default Is there a BIC Acoutech Thread anywhere?

I cant find it...

At any rate, Im finally looking to upgrade my system. My speakers still work well really, but I think it's time I moved along.

Right now Im using JBL HLS (620 x 2, center, 410 x 2, 615 x 2) all around and if anyone remembers these, they are horn based. They sound great for what they are, but I would like to try something new. Im a bit mixed because Im still happy with them...at any rate I was looking at the Bic Acoustech line.

Opinions? I like horn based speakers, so Ive auditioned Klipsch RF as well, however between the Acoustech and Klipsch the price is making the biggest difference. I cant audition the Acoutechs since they arnt available in store.

I 've seen good reviews of them on Amazon and AVS. However, does anyone here have them that can speak their mind?

EDIT: TITLE: Is there a BIC Acoustech Thread anywhere. Add the 's'

thanks!

I'm familiar with JBL, Klipsch, and BIC - and while good speakers, BIC would be either a lateral move at best or actually a step down from your current JBL HLS speakers. If price is the deciding factor - why not try auditionig one of the smaller Klipsch Reference line speakers against the BIC's and see which ones you like the best. If you already have a good sub, take in account that your receiver will more than likely cross your speakers over at 80hz. The JBL HLS series are great speakers and have gained some high reviews.

Thanks for the reply. I guess I was just looking around for another great bang for your buck set. Though that is highly subjective. As I said Im happy with my current set, never done me wrong. Just thought I would try something newer, as if perhaps I may have been missing something all this time.

Afterall, the HLS were released over 12 years ago. I figured a lot has changed in materials and performance.

I guess someone may be bound to ask, How much are you looking to spend? 2000.00 here is my target budget.

I've never believed that there's such a thing as "out of date speakers" or "too old" That's only with TVs and receivers and stuff with $2000 to work with there are LOTS of great speakers out there that you can check out...I even think you should try some speakers that don't use horns - the change might be fun for you (something different than what you've been using for so long). I own both - horn and non-horn speakers and I it's always fun for me to go back and forth between both set ups. anyways, just look at different options, you might find something out there you didn't know you were after.

I've had the same Mission speaker setup for about that amount of time and I still like them as much now then I did then. They give me the sound I like and could afford. If I were to change I'd probably look at everything out there, you might find something that you like alot and could of been left aside.

I would redirect my question as; would like to upgrade my JBLs and what setup do you recommend in such price range, and chances are the answers are going to be trust your ears

Thanks for the thoughts, I did go out and casually auditioned some Polk RTI A9's. I was impressed with how massive they are actually. I saw they had them hooked up to an Emotiva amplifier running the fronts. They told me they sound good with a quality receiver but really need a good amp to get the most out of them given they seem to be speakers with a frequency range I bet some people skip the sub. Suffice to say they sounded great, yet softer then horns.

The Klipsch RF I played with. They werent hooked up to an amp, so thats good in term sof budgeting. For some reason they sounded a bit tin-like overall. Harsh would be a better word, something I dont notice in the HLS. So I figure not all horns are a like obviously.

I will keep looking around though, Im still preferring horns. It's a more in your face sound, while the polks had a sound that was more dimensional.

I realized it becomes harder to choose the more you audition LOL!

....Every speaker has pros and cons.

If you want horns...try some Klipsch heritage speakers, you can get used Heresy speakers now around $500 a pair (get the series one if you can), also do the Bob Crites upgrades (new caps and new ct-125 tweeters) you will be surprised at what you come up with

Thanks for all the help all, I have narrowed it down now to this, but I still have a few more questions.

Polk RTIA9 towers
Polk CSIA6 Center
Polk M10 x 4 for surrounds

I will use my current sub for now, until later on when I can pick up another. It's a JBL ES250pbk which is good enough for now, but can do better.

My last series of questions thus far are this,

the M10's as surrounds fit the budget though I still had to extend it some, however will these be adequate? Their size and specs match the room, but still.

And more importantly, I right now am using a Pioneer 1019ahk

http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PU...s/VSX-1019AH-K

Will this receiver be sufficient to pump these speakers? If so, would anyone recommend using an Emotiva Amp with these because I cant find those anywhere up here in Canada :\

thanks!

I dont believe the 1019 has pre outs for the addition of an amp. Im in the same position. No pre outs on the Denon I have. I wouldn't worry as your receiver will handle the polks without issue.

Oh right, the pre outs. Well that rules out the addition of an amp. Good to know the receiver will be good enough to run the Polks. I auditioned them 3 times, I found them different but well defined all around.

I would figure because the towers extended so low into the range I could lower the crossover down to 50Hz instead of 80Hz and keep the speaker setting to 'small' still.

50Hz because the M10's dont extended below 45Hz. I figured I would do 50hz so not to potentially cause clipping since it would be right at the line.

The Sub can handle below 50Hz down to 25Hz. ironically the towers extend below all the way down to 18Hz which is better then the sub....

Those are great speakers, I would experiment and start with 80 then work down to suit your taste. I think 50 might be a bit too low. Maybe 60? Then let the sub take over.
