So my wife and I saw Arthur Christmas last night and I must say, I honestly don't understand what all the fuss is about. It was an okay film but I honestly dont see this one going down as a traditional classic. Its definitely no Polar Express. Not to delve into details but I always hate it when they try to modernize the mythos of Santa Clause and invoke pop culture references. I realize that Polar Express does this to a degree but it somehow always finds a great balance between the traditional and the new and it never loses its soul. Arthur Christmas take on it is a high tech tour de force and IMO sucks all the magic out of what makes the idea of Santa Claus so special. Its clever, yes and the animation is good enough (though nowhere near the level of Pixar or even Dreamworks). All in all a cute but forgetable movie IMO.
