United Kingdom A Pigeon Sat on a Branch Reflecting Upon Existence (Roy Andersson)

A Pigeon Sat on a Branch Reflecting Upon Existence Blu-ray

Quote:
British distributors Artificial Eye have officially announced that they will release on Blu-ray acclaimed Swedish director Roy Andersson's latest film, A Pigeon Sat on a Branch Reflecting Upon Existence (2014), starring Holger Andersson, Nils Westblom, and Viktor Gyllenberg. The release will be available for purchase on July 13.

The film will open in cinemas across the United Kingdom on April 24.

Synopsis: Completing the trilogy comprising Songs From the Second Floor and You, The Living, Swedish director Roy Andersson confirms that he is one of the most singular voices in contemporary cinema with his latest cinematic oddity. Featuring his off-kilter black humour and his trademark tableaux compositions, the film, inspired by Bruegel's painting 'Hunters in the Snow' and Dostoevsky, looks at the tragic consequences of being and questions, given man's inhumanity, what hope there is for our continuing existence. Funny, moving and deliberately provocative, it's like Laurel and Hardy (the film features two travelling practical joke salesman amongst its other coterie of oddballs) coming face to face with Edvard Munch's 'The Scream'. The film won the prestigious Golden Lion Award at the Venice Film Festival (2014) and is destined to become a film that lingers in the collective memory.

Note: Also on July 13, Artificial Eye will release a 4-disc Roy Andersson box set that will include Pigeon, You, The Living, Songs from the Second Floor and A Swedish Love Story. Currently, the box set is planned only for DVD release.

I'm with you, Foggy! It's dated for July though, so if we lobby them then we might get AE to change their plans.

suggest e-mailing info@artificial-eye.com, tweeting and posting on their Facebook (though unlike most labels you actually have to add them as a friend, it seems). Even if they don't respond, they should at least get the message.

Just to make things more confusing....

Roy Andersson's web site sells the Swedish release (which is completely English friendly). It does have a lower bit rate than the Artificial Eye, but the picture looks great to my eye, and it adds a director's commentary track (with English subs) and some behind the scenes footage.
