Is the new one just new packaging or a new transfer as well?

Im pretty certain its the same with a slipcover

The prettier slipcover is the only difference.

Well at least it was only a buck more for the new slipcover.

Ive also read a few different reviews about this transfer, some say its good some say its not so good.

hi neighbor! yeah, I have read some of the negative PQ reviews as well--but I don't get it-- the picture was sharp and clear to me-- the movie does have alot of dark scenes and surroundings-- perhaps some people were expecting more hi-def "pop" which usually excels in bright outdoor scenes-- this movie had very little of those...

The new disc has been confirmed to be a BD-50 instead of a BD-25. If the new release does have lossless audio it will be worth the upgrade IMHO.

Now that's interresting ! Because i was almost clicking to add the old BR to my wish list on amazon, now i think i want this one !!!
