Default The House of the Devil (2009)

According to Fangoria website, House of the Devil comes to Blu-Ray on Feb 2, 2010.

The thing that sucks is that the SD version will have a few more features than the Blu-Ray.

Man I hate that!!! Great movie!!! First day buy for sure.

This was a 2009 film, but from the trailer I saw, it had an aesthetic from a much earlier time (70s/80s). Has anyone seen this? If so, is it worth checking out?

Great news. Ti West really has love for the horror genre. I thought Roost was great, and would be excited for Cabin Fever 2 if I didn't hear Lionsgate butchered it.

The reviews for this have been average, but I'll still be picking it up to check it out.

The movie is not bad...if you like horror movies from the late 70's. If I had not known better I would have thought the movie was unearthed from a time capsule from the year 1980. The buildup is very slow though. I thought it could have benefited from more scares earlier in the movie, though the ending is truly creepy.

I saw it on HDNET. Do not expect a great presentation on Blu-ray. The film was shot on 16mm film with thick grain.

i rented this in 720p on xbox on 10/1. It was decent but this movie is pretty overhyped. All the "cool" horror blogs gave it a lot of push.

I will admit I jumped up and shouted "YEEAAAAAH!!!" after the first scene and the title came up. It definitely had that old school vibe.

It was a good movie......I had to go online to verify that it was made recently because they did such a great job making it seem like it was the 80's. Yes there was a very slow start but it turns out really good.....

I thought the build up was way too slow and bored me.
Plus the endings didnt have a big pay off for watching it build for so long so Il pass.
Was dissapointed as I was really looking forward to it after all I heard about it.

Rented this, on October 30th, when it was released on POD. It's a nice little throw back to early 80's horror. It's good, but nothing great.

that is crazy cool looking.. too bad you can only get that VHS with teh DVD copy haha.

I remember going thru horror movie rentals at video stores and they would have the oddest stuff esp in the 1980's just crazy titles from the 70's etc and they usually had the coolest cover art even when the movies were bad.

Blu-ray.com review is up:

The House of the Devil Blu-ray (2009)

Also, I haven't seen the film, but some of the screenshots seem a little spolierish. Maybe someone who HAS seen the film can advise.

Anyway, this review has me even more stoked to check this out (it's a blind buy for me). It sounds right up my alley.

As much as I'm already getting next month, I've been anticipating this release for a while. Pretty excited to see a modern throwback. It kind of reminds me of Mega Man 9 released in 2008.

Blind buy. Gotta appreciate the super-authentic vintage feel, complete with deadstock Coke cups.
