Arrow Tesla, Ruler Of The World (Christian Bale and Nic Cage)

Quote:
Last year there was a rumor that Christian Bale may play Nikola Tesla in a new film about the scientist/inventor, called "Tesla, Ruler of the World." Now comes word that Bale is officially in talks and Nicolas Cage is negotiating to play Thomas Edison. Mike Newell (Prince of Persia, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire) will direct.

Tesla (1856-1943) was a contemporary and major competitor of Thomas Edison. His best known contribution to the scientific world was as the proponent of AC (alternating current) electricity versus DC (direct current) electricity as championed by Edison.

The story will feature some modern day elements relating to a "technological crisis."

Tesla was last portrayed by David Bowie in Christopher Nolan's "The Prestige," which also starred Bale.

Bale is a good actor. Cage imo is underated because he's come in some movies that just haven't given him a chance to stretch himself as of late i guess and had to do them to pay his debts.

I look forwards to more details

I love Cage. Lord of War, and Matchstick Men, Face Off, National Treasure, and The Rock. He has lots of talent, just needs a good script.

Tesla, that poor guy got screwed. He definitely needs a biopic!

JP Morgan first invested in Tesla's projects. Once Tesla figured out a way to create electricity that could be free, JP Morgan pulled out, labeled him a quack, discredited him, etc...all because JP Morgan couldn't make money off something that would be easily available and free to the public.

I don't know about Bale playing Tesla. I would rather David Bowie reprise the role. He was awesome in The Prestige.

I'm looking forward to the story though. I really hope it exposes Edison for what he really was, a disgusting, shrewd and deceitful business man, instead of this great American hero we were taught in school. Telsa was the man and the world would probably be a better place if he wasn't driven to madness and solitary. We are just now understanding some of the technology he was working on a hundred years ago.

Agreed.

Also add The Weather Man to that list.

Sounds interesting. Christian Bale's involvement in projects always catches my attention. I am really glad they are doing a biopic on Tesla. I am half-way through a biography on him and he was definitely fascinating and a man way ahead of his time. While I thought David Bowie was great as Tesla in The Prestige, I thought he gave him more of a magical feel than anything else. Will be cool to see what Bale does. As for Nicholas Cage, I like him a lot and he seems to fit the movies he is in: low quality movie = low quality performance. So I am absolutely fine with him being in this; he just seems like a very odd choice for Edison.
