Default NBC Universal for sale?

Anyone got a spare 40 billion lying around? Let's take up a collection and buy them and help put an end to the format war.

"The fate of NBC Universal, General Electric’s entertainment unit, will be decided only after the Beijing Olympics, with executives at the US conglomerate ruling out a sale before August’s showcase event, according to people close to the situation.

NBC, whose value is estimated at about $40bn, has been the subject of repeated sale rumours because of its lagging performance and the awkward fit with the rest of GE’s industrial and financial businesses."

Sort of interesting in how they're setting up NBC Univeral for sale then...

Centralizing everything in Universal City by 2011, in turn giving them some prime real estate to sell in Burbank.

Setting up thier own on-line portal for their programing, and trying to set up a portal for music to compete with Apple.

Man, it just smells like prime Microsoft purchase.

Indeed. Microsoft already has a foot in the door with MSNBC.

Microsoft withdrew from the cable broadcast partnership but still retains a 50% stake in the website.

That is true.

From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Msnbc:

Two partnerships with the name MSNBC were founded in 1996 by Microsoft and General Electric's NBC unit, which is now NBC Universal. Although Microsoft and NBC shared operations of MSNBC cable at its founding, it was announced on December 23, 2005 that NBC Universal would purchase a majority stake in the television network, which left Microsoft with 18%. The two companies remain 50-50 partners in MSNBC.com.

Who knows, maybe MS are changing their strategy.

I'd like to see another MGM happen, but $40 billion is a lot more than $5 billion.

Microsoft is already plateauing. The next phase will be a gradual downhill decline.

Really...ya think??

This will be the 5th sale since Lew Wasserman exited the company.

Hopefully, Sony will buy it and that will be the end.

Well, maybe just Universal Studios. No foreign company can own a TV Broadcast network in the US.

Well, "Sony" being a company and not a person can't run for the president, that's for sure. But I'm also sure that's not what you meant.

Now, our Blu-ray exclusive Terminator I & II actor Arnold Schwarzenegger can't run for president since he wasn't born here although he's a citizen now. (How's that for trying to bring this post back on topic. )

just kidding

My post was purely for intended humorous purposes. Someone said that a foreign company can't own a U.S. TV station and I found that to be odd. I then related that, as you seemed to pick up on, to the fact that someone not born in the U.S. can't run for President.
I would really like to see Arnold run for Pres. I wish that were possible. Maybe it will be as I'm not certain that Bush won't have our constitution burned and stricken from all records. Wait that won't happen as I don't think he knows it exists.

I can come up with about $500 a month. Do you think they would take payments?
