I have a question about controlling the RS45 via direct connection to a Harmony 1100 remote RF receiver base.
It's probably a basic one and was hoping someone could provide a quick answer. I know that the Harmony 1100 can control the RS45 via IR signal, but I would like to control it via RF/hard wire it if possible as the PJ will be above and behind where the seating area will be, inside a closet behind the rear wall, and I'm not sure how well the IR signal will get in there. I suppose I could just run an IR blaster from the RF receiver to the PJ and put the blaster in front of one of the 2 IR sensors. However, the PJ will be in a separate closet from the rest of the AV equipment, including the RF receiver of the Harmony 1100, and I know the IR blasters that I have are too short (probably at least a 10' run). I'm not sure if it is possible to purchase longer ones or to somehow extend them. So that brings me to the idea that I could try to run a direct connection from the RF receiver base to the PJ. What kind of cables would I need to control the JVC RS45 without need of line of sight using a Harmony RF receiver from over 10' away, or is this even possible? The RS45 has a 3.5 mm stereo mini jack that is labelled "Remote" on the back panel. Do I just need a basic 3.5 mm stereo mini jack connector to hook up to that "Remote" jack (#9 in the figure on p.19 of the RS45 manual)? And then do I just connect that to one of the 3.5 mm jacks in the Harmony RF receiver base? In terms of the other connections, I think the trigger terminal (#8 in manual) is for output (I guess to control a retractable screen or something?), the RS232C is for controling via a computer directly, and the LAN for control via control over ethernet, so I'm thinking none of those are what I'm looking for. In any case, I'm trying to put in an order at monoprice very soon (next hour or so) to make their shipping deadline for today and was hoping I could just throw this 3.5mm cable in there to save on shipping IF this is what I need. It's only like a buck for a 12' cable. If not, then I don't want to order it unnecessarily. Any and all help would be much appreciated. Thanks! |
