Eclipse Series 8: Lubitsch Musicals

Confirmed to be coming with today's announcement that the Eclipse line is coming back:

In the coming months, you can look forward to Eclipse sets of the six extraordinary features directed by Kinuyo Tanaka, Japan’s first successful woman director; and five searingly radical documentaries from the husband-and-wife team of Kazuo Hara and Sachiko Kobayashi. And we’ll get you singing and dancing with Blu-ray upgrades of Carlos Saura’s electrifying Flamenco Trilogy and Ernst Lubitsch’s joyously risqué pre-Code musicals. Also in the pipeline are sets devoted to the early films of Ruben Östlund and the revolutionary cinema of Sara Gómez.

Has the Criterion Channel ever had a series for these? It'd be nice to at least have an introduction, as the DVDs didn't have bonus features.

I don't remember them ever highlighting films just because they were in Eclipse sets, but most of the movies in Eclipse sets are part of the "core" Janus collection that's always available on the channel.

I agree it would be neat to highlight them through the Eclipse frame though. Maybe when each new set comes out, feature it for a month or something.

I'm so excited. Hopefully the recent Love Parade restoration is used. And The Smiling Lieutenant is one of my most wanted upgrades.

As soon as I saw Eclipse was returning this was my number one wish for an upgrade, so I’m very glad to see it be granted immediately hahahaha. Trouble in Paradise soon too, please!!

I saw this in the Pre-code thread here on this site, apparently in addition to The Love Parade, One Hour With You has just recently had a new 4K restoration done by Universal, with it's original color tints restored as part of it. I found the details of it here, I would hope/think that Criterion would use these new restorations for the upcoming upgrade, but I'm thrilled that these are coming out on Blu-ray finally regardless.

I'm interested to see what gets released first: Trouble in Paradise or the Lubitsch version of The Merry Widow.
