Are Beats by Dre headphones good when it comes to playing a blu-ray on your laptop?

No, they aren't good headphones according to this review http://www.trustedreviews.com/monste...dphones_review
They also mention better alternatives for a lower price. |

The biggest drawback is you can't defeat the noise cancellation circuitry, and you are always sacrificing something in fidelity when you have NC engaged.
For the price of what they charge for Beats, I think you'll get more neutral sound and just as good noise cancellation from a circumaural headset like the AKG 271 MK II's...only $150 on Amazon right now. http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listi...&condition=new Sennheiser HD555's are another good option - $180 - http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-HD5...256020&sr=1-18 |

I have researched the Beats headphones online a good bit this last week and concluded that they are not very good headphones for their price range. I recommend these ($154)

I own a pair of beats by dre headphones, the on ear type, not the over ear ones. they sound good to me. i use them for my iphone4 or iPad2 when i'm in a public place and want to listen to music or game; and they are really good for the gaming experience for explosions and such!
![]() my girlfriend has a sony laptop with a blu-ray player built in and i've listen to action movies and found that the exceptional low bass capabilities of the beats headphones added some good times to the movie watching experience while watching on the laptop. hints (tiny, headphone sized hints) of a good HT experience. the otherthing is they were not that expensive (to me) and i didn't want to get a really expensive equal or better set of headphones in case these got lost while out (cause sometimes you forget things). i don't use them for listening to music from my HT or 2 channel setups so i wasn't looking for the really expensive type of headphones. for my portable devices i like the LF that the phones give. best luck to you OP with whatever you decide to go with. |

Dobyblu, don't get me wrong. They sound great, it is just low frequency which they struggle with. That problem for me means they are good but flawed headphones not suitable for my set up. Just wrote them off (use them for sattelite tv rather than blurays) but i will look into it now.
