United Kingdom The Hollow Crown

I just got around to watching The Hollow Crown and I thought it was absolutely fantastic, any chance this is coming to blu-ray?

I hope so, as I missed the series when it first aired

I think our only hope is if/when NBC release it in the states as for some reason the BBC doesn't seem interested. I don't understand why they'd film and broadcast something in HD but only release it in SD.

It's a shame as it was an excellent series. In better news, I think they're planning to do more of the plays in the same style. Fingers crossed.

I know it's very strange as a lot of other BBC series have been released on blu-ray and from what I've read it seems to have been very well received, as you say if it is successful in the US it will hopefully be released in there.

I'm extremely pleased they're planning to do more, do you know which ones? If they want to continue the trend of chronologically grouped works they could do Henry V, Henry VI and Richard III.

Me too, fortunately my parents had it recorded on the V+ box.

I had no idea there had been so many screen adaptations, I will definitely look into some of these, particularly Titus Andronicus, I wonder if they watered it down at all, it's quite, err, graphic.

I don't think they've even got as far as deciding that yet. I read it in an interview with Sam Mendes (which, I'm afraid, I can't find a link for at the moment) but it seems like it's a ways off, if it happens at all.

I don't think The Hollow Crown has even been broadcast in America yet. Maybe they'll wait to see how it does over there as they'll probably be relying on Hollywood funding again.

I was shocked to hear they had to go to NBC to get the remaining funding, especially with some of the rubbish BBC Worldwide are happy to support and the cast that had been assembled.

There is some good news though, NBC have stated they see it as a long-term project which would not only suggest a potential blu-ray release but as you stated before, more adaptations.

I would buy this in a heartbeat if there was a blu release but I won't even consider the SD dvd release.

Hopefully we'll see a Series 1 and 2 boxset after the latest series has been broadcast... I'm not particularly optimistic though.

Region free? 1080i/50? Anyone know? Would love to get this, but I've been burned by a few "region free" releases. More info, please!

The BD set has been delayed to 17 November, so you should not expect to know until then. With UK-only releases, Universal UK have been known to region-lock, and use 1080/50i for UK TV programming, so I would not pre-order unless you can play 50Hz material and Region B discs.

Got an email that my order has shipped. It'll take 1-2 weeks to get here, but I'm looking forward to receiving it.
