I Love You Phillip Morris will be released on April 5th 2011 on Blu-ray Disc from LionsGate home video.
I Love You Phillip Morris Blu-ray I Love You Phillip Morris Blu-ray Review iloveu.jpg i_love_you_phillip_morris_ver4.jpg Jim Carrey stars in a con artist story so unbelievable, it could only be true - as I Love You Phillip Morris debuts on DVD, Blu-ray Disc and Digital Download this April from Lionsgate. Hailed by theVillage Voice as "the best performance of Carrey's career," this hysterically dark comedy, from the writers of Bad Santa, spins the true story of Steven Russell (Carrey), a small town businessman who became one of the most wanted men in Texas for his brilliant con schemes and prison escapes, all to impress the handsome and incredibly naïve Phillip Morris (Ewan McGregor). The DVD and Blu-ray Disc contain a making-of featurette and audio commentary with the writers/directors and producer. Blu-ray Disc - $39.99 Last edited by Deciazulado; 03-19-2011 at 09:09 PM. |

I just saw "I Love You, Philip Morris" in Scottsdale last night. It was a pretty good film and I'd have to agree with critics who said that it was one of Jim Carrey's best performances. Ewan McGregor looked as if he had shed about 20 years and played it very "straight"—but I suspect much of his performance was left on the cutting room floor. Granted, he really wasn't the subject of the film but there was obviously something missing.
From what I understand, the film had difficulty finding a distributor due to the explicit gay sexual content. Unfortunately, it was re-edited for distribution. Hopefully the original uncut version will make its way to Blu-ray rather than the watered -down version. As good as it was, I think an even better film existed before the scissors were employed. I can't imagine released the edited version! What was the point of making and then releasing on video an edited/cut release? I'll wait till the copy on this defiantely states it's UNCUT, not the bastardized/pasturized pap the studio tossed into theaters so as not to make the religous right's head's spin 360!

I didn't know this came out (no pun) last August in the UK. I can't tell if the Blu is region-locked or not. Had I known it was available I probably would've ordered the DVD last fall.
I wish there was a way to see which releases were going to be available overseas before they're available here (other than looking up each individual release on A/UK). |
