I would have to say this one...
![]() It's a tradition in many households to watch The Ten Commandments every Easter. An epic masterpiece that I never get tired of watching. Honorable mention goes to these flicks: Ben Hur The Robe |

For once I agree with you, but I'd add The Passion to the honorable mention list.

well Greatest Story Ever Told is a great film, but of course the bd was widely panned. I don't think it's THAT bad. It's better than an upconverted dvd imo.
(I do despise the "Zombie Jesus" cover. easily one of the worst bd covers ever.) Sound of Music is always shown around Easter. Jesus of Nazareth mini-series bd now out in Mexico. supposedly looks very good. |

I already started my Easter movies last night, watching part one of Jesus Of Nazareth (DVD). I will be watchng part two and three in the next two nights. I also will be watching Jesus Christ Superstar, The Ten Commandements and Ben Hur over the weekend, my own little personal Easter tradition.
As for the question, I agree with the OP The Ten Commandements Last edited by P@t_Mtl; 04-05-2012 at 03:53 PM. |

IMO, the greatest Easter movie of all-time is Jesus of Nazareth..no question about it. And since it is technically on blu-ray somewhere, then I would say that film. However, The Ten Commandments is my absolute favorite blu-ray...perfection.

(Un, not to quibble technicalities, but isn't that technically Passover?...
![]() Easter would be another thousand years later. ) Quote:
Mention "Josh Mostel", and I immediately think of John Belushi's replacement on "Delta House". ![]() Still, JCS is a good movie if you take it out of context and actually listen to the lyrics: When it came out, everyone assumed it was a happy Sunday-school Jesus-freak hippie celebration like Godspell--Actually, the original musical was an angry deconstruction about how Jesus's naive message was twisted to fit the political Roman tensions of the time by both sides, and "poor" activist Judas was the only one who could see the powder-keg. It's better handled in the in-concert '00 version (without all the artsy Norman Jewison trappings, as he didn't really have a clue either), but that's not on Blu yet, and if you look hard enough in the right places, you can still see it in the 70's version. The Robe's in 4K is the best-looking for studio budget, though, and if I got all the way through that one, I should probably get around to seeing Ben-Hur all the way through sometime.. Now, if only Classic Media would finally get around to the Easter Rankin-Bass specials, and finally get the original "Here Comes Peter Cottontail" on Blu (not their heretical name-borrowed Spongebob update). "The Easter Bunny is Coming to Town" is okay, too, but that one didn't have Danny Kaye. Last edited by EricJ; 04-05-2012 at 06:32 PM. |
