Never seen an HD showing of this before (ITV3 have never shown one) just hope the transfer is on a par with ‘Love thy Neighbour’.

Incidentally, BBC2 showed the ‘Porridge’ movie this afternoons in HD, that I believe was a first, and whilst it was the best I’ve ever seen it, there was certainly some print damage, washed out appearence etc, but good signs all the same I guess for future releases of ‘film’ sitcoms.

I adore the series, but found the movie awfully unfunny. It just didn't translate for me. And this often happens with feature length films taken from TV series'. I've always thought comedy works better in a shorter format. Most of the time anyway.

I'd still like the screencaps please newgen.

I watched a few sections of it the other day, it looked good to me. We're extremely unlikely to see another version of this movie on Blu-ray, so I'm prepared to live with imperfection.

I've seen the disc and grain is there. The notes inside are very open and honest about what was involved, and DNR appears to have been used as it should and not misused as it so often is. So if they hadn't mentioned it people would be none the wiser. There is a lot of stock footage used in this film and these bits probably account for much of the usage to even out the presentation.

My eyes see it differently. The colours all merge and you move close to the screen and you can tell its all awash. There is barely any grain.

It's no different to any other of their restorations, many highly praised like their ITC discs, that use "grain management" and not blanket DNR.

What I saw when I moved closer to the screen was the usual lumpy encode from Network which no one else ever seems to moan about as much as me. It's not disastrously bad but I wish they'd sort it out.

No record of any BBFC cuts to either the film or the TV episode.

They haven't cut anything.

The recovered episode though is apparently censored, I think someone compared to the surviving audio recording of the original broadcast and found a couple of short exchanges missing. That can't be helped I suppose, it's not like they can pull another copy off the shelf!

The audio recording was the BBC broadcast version, so it's possible the print/tape of the TV episode was censored locally or simply cut for time for foreign transmission.
