The Lover (Jean-Jacques Annaud)

Genon-Universal will release Jean-Jacques Annaud's The Lover (L'amant) (1992), starring Tony Leung Ka-Fai and Jane March, on Blu-ray in Japan on September 26th.

According to the Amazon listing, it will be presented in an uncensored version, and possibly from a new high-definition remaster, if the translation is accurate.

The German blu ray of "The Lover" is actually pretty nice, but if the Japanese edition is going to have a new master and also be uncensored, I'll definitely get it.

I believe the Germany release is uncensored. The length time on the BD is 115 minutes which is the length of the unrated version.

The German BD is uncensored, even with the "12" rating. . It's funny how what would get the NC-17 in America is a 12 in Germany.

Yeah, I found that a bit weird. Yet, "Showgirls" has a "16" rating there. I wonder how they come up with these ratings. Honestly, I think "The Lover" is a lot more explicit with the sex and nudity than "Showgirls." I guess it's because "Showgirls" has a little more violence in it and maybe in Germany, violence is worse than nudity? Who knows?

Yes, I am aware that the German version is uncut/uncensored, but I am curious about the upcoming Japanese version as there are titles in Japan that still get optically censored( although not to the extent that they used to get visually blurred out some years ago).
