Default Anybody hear of 22.2 surround sound?

This to me is crazy but it was mentioned in an next generation xbox article today surrounding the rumors of Microsofts big unveil today, of what is widely thought to be tablet to go with xbox's new Smartglass feature. here is the link.

heres another link that has a supposed spec sheet. if you look at the audio specs you can see 22.2 surround sound.

Either Microsoft is very good at trolling the gaming community or they've lost their damn minds. How in the world can any implement 22.2 Surround Sound in a theater, yet alone in a house?!
Does humanity really require a speaker for each sound effect or PQ higher than the human eye can see?

NOPE.

Dolby Atmos is going to be up to 62.2. But it's also not meant for a house.

I've certainly heard of 22.2 theater/demo rooms (at least in theory), but of course it wouldn't be practical for a home setting (unless most were very small speakers).

I'm personally interested in 11.3 (not that I've read about such an implementation), so I could utilize front heights and wides.

Dolby Atmos sounds like it's going to be amazing. I'll find out this weekend at Brave, but I'll just go ahead and say, for a theater experience, yes.

Right now i think .. we don't but there's a option but i guess this is just MS trolling . They know that they can only get money from the XBL and it has been the golden pot in the last years .... ( remember how fast the let it down HD DVD ) .

my thought is who's wife is going to allow them to put 22, well 24 speakers around their living room? mine hates the 7, or 8 that i got!!!!! this has to be non sense. but if you were gonna leak rumors about the next xbox, wouldnt that spec be so far off the wall it would just have to ridden off as fake?

PS... dont forget about the part that says it is a bluray player which to me alone says fake! MS is never gonna pay royalties like that to Sony. Yeah yeah i know, Sony doesnt own bluray, but they have to pay and Sony is involoved, MS isnt gonna do it!

Yes, the Dolby Atmos technology is capable of 22.2 and 62.2. I created a new thread for this with video discussion of the new technology (adding overhead speakers and such).
