Default Real life experiences made scarier due to movies/ Vice versa

Any moments in real life that were made scarier because you thought of a particular movie(doesn't have to be a horror flick to be scary)?

Or

Any movies(/scenes) made scarier due to past real life experiences?

Arachnophobia - cannot watch this movie. I had a fear of spiders as a kid but thought I beat it as an adult. Watched this movie thinking that my fear was gone - had nightmares for about 2 years of spiders collapsing through the ceiling, crawling on me, etc. Still have a fear of them today. It's pathetic. Never watched the movie since.

I had recently watched The Shining and I couldn't step into my bathroom in the middle of the night(which has a tub btw) without freaking out. The sink is on the opposite side of the tub and whenever I used to wash my face I used to get freaking scared at the thought of that old woman being there when I opened my eyes.
This was just for the two-three nights after watching the movie.

Inception, I dreamt it

Nah, for some reason Alien manages to freak me out when I'm in the dark, makes me think the actually xenomorph will pop out the shadows

I was an incredible paranoid child, film like Terminator 3 actually terrified me, just because I felt like some thing was around the corner was coming to get me, I was pretty afraid of the Hulk for a while back in 2003 because I had a weird dream about it I can remember being pretty scared of Batman Begins as well when that came out, I didn't even wind up going to see it, just some of the ideas behind the film terrified me

Had a motorcycle accident where my front end washed away from under me,and was sailing on the tarmac at around 50 mph heading for a ditch head first, where I was thinking:this is it,game over.It came back to me watching TT3D:Closer to the edge

PS:Got thrown round like a ragdoll hiting the ditch, but luckily only a few bruised ribs.Remember riding my bike home stuck in 6th gear, and the stearingbar stuck out at an odd angle seeing stars in daylight

Jaws... swimming in a swimming pool at night when I was a kid.
swimming in the ocean, still paranoid as hell.

Communion - i used to have nightmares about that all the time..

Neither were particularly good choices to watch when I was so young. Why do dreams sometimes feel so real

When I was 12 or 13, took a small boat with oars to go swim near a sand bar I knew a bit aways on a lake (am a really good swimmer, but looking back it surprises me my parents were not concerned lol).
Set the anchor down, and started to do a bit of snorkeling around a pile of rocks to watch small fish. When done, I stayed on my back a little looking at the sky, knowing the small boat was nearby.

Not sure how much time passed, but when I got back swimming, the boat had strayed away, and a current I guessed pushed the both of us farther down, because under me I couldn't see the bottom of the lake anymore, only giant kelps coming up from under, and everything was blue/dark beyond that.

Not sure why, I started imagining a giant shark roaming among them (yeah, I know ... In a lake ), panicked, and tried to get back on board and couldn't.
I then calmed myself down, and was able to, but man, I thought that was scary as heck.

Oh, I had watched Jaws 2 a few weeks before that I guess

Watching 1980s horror films has brainwashed me into being nervous if I walk outside at night in the suburbs. Fortunately, I live in a city now.

My wife and I used to talk about taking a trip to the Northeast to visit the "haunted inns".

After watching The Innkeepers, we crossed that trip off our list

i remember walking home from seeing Sixth Sense and being in deep thought about it and thinking about death and i almost stepped on a dead rabbit that was pretty much staring at me. didnt scare me but definitely made me jump being face to face with real death while it was so fresh in my mind.
