I would like to know the opinions of all the users who have a streaming service, thru their TV, BDP, PS3 etc... Having only used Netflix prior I wanted to know which is the best service for your money or if you pay at all. I would like to activate one of these services preferably not Netflix as I know their selection to be lacking.

Are you talking picture quality, audio quality, selection available, convince (as in how many devices work with the service), or price for what you get?
I have used netflix and vudu. Vudu looked the best. The sound quality was okay, but not that great. The 2 movies I watched, if I remember right, were both in 5.1, but they were more talking type movies, so rears weren't active much. Not the type of movies to judge sound quality. I didn't like their prices however, so it's not something I have used since. I might use it again, if a friend comes over, and wants to see something I don't own, netflix doesn't have available. But otherwise, I'd rather rent from netflix disc or stream, or buy the movie on blu-ray. Netflix I use a lot. It's passable for video quality. Yeah, it gets macroblocking and all that from time to time, but it's pretty decent. About as a good as an upscaled dvd. Sound is okay too. I've heard some 5.1 that get the job done, and some 5.1 movies that fall flat. I watch documentaries a lot, one a day on average, and it's good for that. I always thought the pq and aq failed for action movies. |

Amazon. $79 a year gets you free 2-day shipping, a free Kindle book rental each month (limited titles) and a streaming service comparable to Netflix (where their service is $96 a year). It also has rentals and purchases outside of Prime, and several studios allow you to redeem digital copies there.

Another plus one for Amazon. Lots of freebies with Prime. Recently started watching Lost Season 1 HD and got hooked. The streaming was flawless over my PS3 and the best part was its free! Kids also watch Legend of Korra.
Tried vudu to watch Sammy's Adventure in 3D. Lots of buffering but passable. The 3D made up for it. The PSN streaming of Chronicle was unwatchable. Constant buffering to the point that everybody watching lost interest. Ended up buying the bluray at Best Buy when it went on sale for $12.99. YMMV. This was all on Charter cable with their vaunted 30MBps speed, Motorola surfboard wireless with their newest docsis protocol, old 60GB PS3. |

it depends on what you're looking for. if you're looking to rent the latest blockbusters at $4-$6 a pop, then go with Amazon instant or Vudu. if you want SUBSCRIPTION based service. Netflix is the best. if you want new blockbusters don't expect to pay $10 a month and get unlimited streaming. Expect to pay $5-$8 per movie for new blockbusters streaming (depending on quality of the stream)....

If you're looking for best picture and audio quality, I'd say Vudu and Zune. Best value is Amazon and Netflix. If you have Dish, Blockbuster is also an excellent value; for $10 a month you get Blockbuster and the Epix channels. Best selection is probably still Netflix, but I haven't perused the Amazon selection in quite a while to be honest.
