I picked these two albums because they came out in the same week as one another, April 1971. They are both ten tracks, both blues rock albums. I gotta say, "Hyacinth House" is the hidden gem on L.A. Woman, as is "Sister Morphine" on Sticky Fingers. I'm gonna have to think about this one...

I still haven't decided which way to vote on this one yet, but I think I am leaning more in the direction of Sticky Fingers because I think there is so much more going on musically throughout that album (different types of guitar on different songs, piano/organ, saxophone, string accompaniments, etc.).
It's a tough call for me, though, because L.A. Woman boasts the title track AND Riders on the Storm, but Sticky Fingers only has one epic (Can't You Hear Me Knocking). And yeah, Almadacr, for the record these are NOT my two favorite albums of 1971 (just thought they'd make for a good pairing). |

Also, for the record, I think that Sticky Fingers has one real stinker ("Wild Horses") but that L.A. Woman does not. (Am I the only one on the board who hates that song? It's so slow and so long, and at one point Richards or whoever teases you with a bluesy guitar solo that never comes to fruition... frustrating song)
So difficult to choose between these two great albums. |

I didn't hesitate at all and for 1 simple reason: Riders On The Storm. That song by itself (well almost) makes The Doors the most desirable for me. It's also my top Doors album while Sticky Fingers isn't my top Stones album (that might just be Let It Bleed)

![]() Seriously though, even if I'm not a die-hard fan of Zep (was always a Purple fan) I have to agree LZ 4 is quite the album and deserves such high praise buddy. ![]() |
