Default Monitor 60s vs Motion 10, both $119 each

Which would you choose? I currently don't have any floor standing speakers but I am in the market for them.. I don't know anything about the ML Motions, but I have heard great things about Polk Audio.. Your help is appreciated.

Take a chance with the Motion 10's. I don't own them (I own ML Vistas), but I did own the Monitor 60's.

Monitor 60's are good, but I think Polk gets a little too much praise around here. They're good budget speakers (for beginners), but there's better options out there. My pair of MLs are electrostatic speakers, the Motion 10s have a folded motion tweeter, I plan on buying the EM-FX2 to replace my rears...which feature the same tech that the Motion 10s do.

I have the same setup you do.. I can't see your gallery tho. Electrostat ESL's,EM C2 and I'm gonna get the FX 2's also.. Those are spendy tho.

Thanks for the response.. It's funny that you say they are beginner budget speakers, that's exactly what I am lol.. These will be my 1st floor standing speaker purchase and honestly, the only reason I want them is for the look.. I rarely listen to music and was told that floor standing speakers are better for that.. I figured getting 2 floor standing speakers for a little over $200 with free shipping is better than just buying bookshelf speakers with stands..

You do realize this is like comparing a Honda Civic (Polk 100) and Honda S2000 Martin (Logan Motion 10) maybe more. You are going to get much better sound from the Martin Logan Motion motions 10s.

Yep, but if you're going to start, start off with the better choice If they're both the same price, and come from the same dealer...and function exactly the same (it's not like the Martin Logans will require a different receiver, or speaker wire from the Polks), it's a no brainer.

Get the Martin Logans, and update us when you get them

Not quite the same. I have a pair of Vistas, and a Matinee for the center. The ELM series is pretty cool, though. I was heavily considering getting those, but got the Vistas/Matinee for an excellent price.

My suggestion would be to get these, they are better then the motions(IMO) and polks. and at $125 ea, itll be hard to find a better speaker.

I've heard the Motion 10 and did NOT like the sound. The mids sounded very recessed and highs were overly accentuated. Low end did not seem full either. Overall, wasn't my cup of tea.
The low end of the Monitor 60s are fuller, highs not as bright and mids not as recessed. I'm not saying the Monitor 60s are awesome, but I think they offer a much more balanced sound than the Motion 10s. Don't judge solely by the brand.

With that said, I second callas' recommendation for the RC10. You do tend to get more fidelity with a bookshelf compared to a tower for the same price as you're getting better drivers, just less of them. Get a couple of low cost stands off amazon for $40. Towers get you more sensitivity so you need less power and they're less likely to tip onto someone (like a toddler) when knocked, but if those aren't concerns for you, a good bookshelf can offer a very good listening experience for even a medium/large room.

Martin Logan is a better speaker company than Polk by far. Of course you will have to go listen to both to figure out which better suites your ears but remember its all up to your ears. I wouldnt doubt it if you went with Martin Logan instead.

Amen, the only reason why they get so much praise is because the price. In all honesty they are that good of a company. I love to feel what im listening to. I dont need it to be loud and if it is loud it cant loose any anything. Polk doesnt fall under either category.

Well let me put like this you are really talking about the commercial side of the Polk like RTi/a or the Monitor line because if you put everything in the same bag you for sure never heard older Polk speakers or the LSiM line , and this will go to other brands like Klipsch , they really have not so great speakers but they also have some oldies that sound really good compared to some new expensive speakers

If Polk sells , well it's because they are worthed something and ppl like them or all Polk owners are dumb ?

Speakers are what they are or you like them or not if you are happy good for you .

As I stated, don't judge by brand. As Almadacr stated, Polk had some very good speakers before. As their brand recognition grew, they took the approach to further commoditize their brand and offerings and aim toward the largest market, the average consumer. ML is on the same path. While ML will likely keep a better higher product line, they're introducing low-end products that appeal price-wise to the average consumer. Just because their high-end line is great doesn't mean their low-end products are much better than other low-end products. You can't judge solely by the brand. There are tons of high-end boutique speaker brands out there, but the ones that make the most money are the ones that target the average consumer. It's up to the company on the direction they want to take and what compromises they want to make to their high-end line or entry-level line. Big box stores have requirements of cost for given quantities purchased and if the mfr wants to sell through these channels, they need to compromise more. This volume of low-end product can help fund their continued high-end product, but again, just because the brand is good doesn't mean their low-end, average consumer product is any better than another brand that more specializes in that arena.

I own the Polk 60s and they are great for the price but they do not do very well in the LFE area. Music is not the speakers strong area but with a good sub they will suffice providing the crossover settings are letting the sub do its job. The Polks will do great in the BD movie area but if I was you I would go with the MLs even though they are MLs beginner series. Go with the best name brand company and even though I own Polks the MLs will win this hands down. But last but not least, let your ears make the decision if you can.

You guys must be polk owners. You guys are like Raiders fans. Sorry if a offended you but lets just be honest. Polk is cheap. They are loud and annoying (my opinion of course) i've listen to a crap ton of speakers over the last couple of years and polk is near the bottom when it comes to hifi audio speakers. Its better than bose.......... Anyway speakers are always up to the actual listen/viewer so if you like polk's newer stuff than good for ya. But remember and always remember you get what you pay for!!!!
