Default Who reads Movie Novelizations?

Who here reads Movie Novelizations, like say the ones for Man of Steel and Pacific Rim. I'm currently reading the novel for Pacific Rim and I always like the details they give to scenes in the movie. I especially like when they have scenes not in the movie.

I did a lot in my teenage years, but not really any in a long time since then.
I know novelizations are usually written concurrently with filming, so they are based on scripts and the pre-edited film, so that is why scenes make it in the book that were never filmed or were cut.

I used to back in the day. Still have all my Star Wars, Trek ones. I also have a lot of those old photo novels.

I haven't read a great deal of them. In fact, I could probably list the ones I have read. As you said, though, it's interesting coming across scenes that were omitted from the film. I read the novelisation of Batman Returns recently and it includes the bit in which Bruce finds Selina dripping blood into Shreck's coffee.

I don't read them, although I was almost compelled to buy the Raw Deal novelisation when I saw it in a charity shop earlier this year.

The novel for Raiders of the Lost Ark included many scenes that weren't in the final film.

I just finished reading the novelization of Rob Zombie's "The Lords of Salem". It was basically the original script Zombie wrote. While I enjoyed the movie very much, the novel improved upon it immensely. Now I'm bummed that the film didn't follow the original screenplay, but I guess considering he did the film on a $2 million budget in 22 days, it was still an impressive feat.

Who even PUBLISHES movie novelizations anymore? (Apart from tie-ins of existing NYT best-sellers, or kids/teen movies which can be marketed at mass-market paperback channels, like Scholastic school-sales or Barnes & Noble.)
Thought most of them went the way of the Soundtrack Album, after the VHS was invented, and we didn't need secondhand "totems" to remind us of the movie anymore.

(And to think I've still got a few copy of those old '78-'79 Fotonovels somewhere...That WAS the VCR of its day.)

I do sometimes, but it depends on the movie and how well I liked it. It's sometimes very interesting seeing the small differences between the movie and the novelization.

I picked up the Pacific Rim novelization to read this past week, from the get-go the prologue is a little bit different. I haven't really started reading it yet though.

I'm not 100% certain but I believe the last novelization I picked up was the one for Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow. It has been a good while since I read it but I do recall that the book was structured into distinct episodes, as in a movie serial, which is what Kerry Conran wanted to do with the movie but Paramount put the kibosh on that (along with other negative meddling).

Really? I did get the feeling that that was what he wanted, but to find out that he wanted to go that route is kinda interesting. I may have to pick up the novel for that to see for myself then.

I remember reading the Phantom Menace novel a month before the movie came out and thinking, "Man, this movie will either be real huge, or suck bad."

The entire Prequel Trilogy novelizations are excellent! Revenge of the Sith is the best! It was great reading those before the film came out, and just heading to the movie to ignore the story and acting, and focus on the acting and special effects.

I'm not sure but I think the only actual novelization I've ever read was Star Wars.

Novels adapted to film, that's another story. In fact, I've been kind of going out of my way to put things like that on my GoHastings list the past few months.
