Default How do I get my Ps3 to do true Hd?

So I have my new pioneer 1122 set up with 3 Paradigms. When I go to watch a movie on my PS3 slim it says Dolby digital how do I get master or true hd?

P.S. Its hooked up through HDMi

Go to your PS3 settings and change Linear PCM to Bitstream.

Its located in the video settings. Go to BD/DVD-Audio Output Format (HDMI) and select Bitstream

Here's a note: Some older blu-ray movies don't automatically decode to lossless audio when the feature presentation starts, so you have to push pause and adjust it in the main menu. The Dark Knight is an example.

You're not gonna break anything. Set it on Bitstream Mix which is the one I have it on. Go to the one above it and select Bitstream as well.

hey fanatic, i just checked my ps3 slim out, the settings your talking about are for optical cable out only

for hdmi he should select: bitstream

under the heading of:

BD/DVD AUDIO OUTPUT FORMAT (HDMI) BITSTREAM or
LPCM

you are correct, he got lost below! the OP read the options for the wrong heading! he read the one about optical output and not the HDMI output

if its set to bit stream sometimes you have to go to audio settings on blu ray disc and change the audio to true hd some of the older disc default to dd the newer ones usually play the loss less codec

Although this has been answered, setting it to bitstream wouldn't have made a difference. The OP I presume is reading off the overlay from the PS3 when the "display" option is selected. Even if the PS3 was set to output LPCM, the codec encoded on the disc would be decoded then sent to the receiver via HDMI as PCM, whether it be DD, DD TrueHD, DTS-HD MA etc. The only resaon for this, as pointed out is that the OP is watching an old WB title, or a title with a PCM track (normally defaults to the lossy DD track, i.e. Sony titles). What title were you watching xXI GaMe IXx?

For future reference, the online PS3 User's Guide, like the paper version that comes with the PS3, offers at least a little bit of explanation. (What isn't explained is why the Audio Output Format is found in the Video Settings section.)

If your PS3 decodes and outputs as PCM then your receiver will indicate as much. If you set output to bitsream the receiver will indicate what the particular codec is (i.e. Dolby TrueHD). If the audio track is PCM then there's nothing to decode so your receiver will say PCM (or Multi-channel) regardless of your PS3 settings. It's important to note that you're hearing the same thing whether the PS3 audio output is set to PCM or bitstream.
