Blu-ray Grand Duke

Not sure if this thread exists, I did a quick search under the NA BD forum and didn't see anything, so...
If you are upgrading your current TV/projection screen, do you feel the need to rewatch your entire blu-ray collection? Obviously the favorite films will be watched again, but what about those BF BD's you got? Or some TV seasons? I think I'll be adding a 3rd TV or a projector to my existing 2 HDTV's, and this thought occurred to me. Wasn't sure what others have done after they upgraded. I mean a collection of 500 BDs, is going to take an awful lot of time to rewatch. That's assuming one still have regular OTA programming they watch, rentals, future BD purchases, etc? Just thought I'd throw it out there! |

Blu-ray Archduke

I bought my first HDTV and first Blu-ray player only three weeks ago, after owning the same 27'' tube television since 2000. I only wanted to make room for a 32'' HDTV, so I bought a 32'' LG 1080p LCD. I also had some cash set aside to upgrade several of my essential favorite DVDs to Blu-ray.
It goes without saying that I am thoroughly enjoying watching movies in high definition for the first time. I've been watching movies on a near-daily basis for the past three weeks, taking time to enjoy the Blu-ray discs, but also enjoying my old DVDs, since my setup upscales the DVD experience quite well. I'm sure that, if I buy a larger HDTV in years to come, I'll be immersing myself in the collection all over again. For now, I'm perfectly happy as is. This rocks my world, pure and simple. |

It's fascinating how movies that I grew up watching (Dr. No, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Stand By Me, The Adventures of Robin Hood, Alien, etc.) almost seem new to me now because of details that I'm noticing for the first time. The Star Wars Complete Saga was a real trip to watch a couple weeks ago, although I sometimes had trouble figuring out whether the differences of detail in the high definition presentation of the original trilogy were due to the format or due to Lucas continuing to screw around with the movies. A combination of both, I guess. Haha. |

Now my question to you is: When you upgrade your current HDTV, presumably to a larger one, will you re-watch all those movies? ![]() |

So far, my Blu-ray collection consists mostly of all-time favorite movies (my Bond collection, etc.) that I cycle through a couple of times a year anyway, so they'll all make a showing again by default the next time my television is upgraded. |

I wouldn't feel like I'd need to re-watch my entire collection in most cases. The only time I'd probably dig out a movie explicitly to see how it looks on a new display would be when going from one major resolution jump to another: SD -> HD -> UHD. I'd mostly be concerned if I need to upgrade my favorites or not in that case.
Though I can remember the first time I bought a projector. I definitely did go through several of my favorite scenes. But that was a jump from a 27" CRT to over an 80" screen which was big at the time. So I bet if you go with a PJ, you'll at least want to check out some of your favorite scenes ![]() |

When I got my first Projector I did the same thing because I went from a 52" screen to a 106" screen ~ Bigger is better
![]() When I went from a 720P Projector to a 1080P projector I started re-watching my collection. very noticeable difference. |

Couldn't agree more. I went from a 55" to 120" and it was huge. Obviously there's no way I'm going to sit down and watch my entire collection again, but I was slapping in all my reference quality Blus (and favorite films) right away. To me, it was like watching them all over again for the first time. It's just a totally different experience. If you have the room and funds, I'd opt for a PJ and screen. You won't regret it. Best investment I've made in a long time.

I've upgraded twice now (and probably will for a third time early next year), and I have only felt the need to watch my collection the first time I upgraded, as I went from 720p to 1080p on that upgrade. With the next upgrade, though, I'm likely getting a TV with 3D capabilities, which means that the 3D films in my collection are getting watched almost immediately.
