United Kingdom Can you remember when you had a small blu-ray collection?

If this thread belongs elsewhere, feel free to move it. Or if a similar thread exists, feel free to merge it

I was struggling to remember back to when I only had a few blu-rays. It's always felt like I've owned a lot of them. My first one was either Up or Snow White, I can't really remember now. I was still buying DVDs and I bought them because they were dual format, although I did have a blu-ray player at the time. I certainly didn't envisage I would be where I am now with my collection, having over 1100 titles and another 100 or so on pre-order

So to anyone with a large or fairly large collection, do you remember the time when you only had a few, and did you know where the blu-ray journey would take you? Did you just have a small shelf for them and think that would be enough?

Yes, because I'm livin' it!

I'd love to expand my collection, but I also have other media that I support so I'm spread pretty thin. There is no doubt however that if I were primarily a movie-lover my collection would be substantially higher.

I will say that despite my small collection, I have never owned as many movies as I have since Blu-ray was introduced. And never in a million years would I ever have imagined owning what I own. I'm in a bit of a standstill at the moment regarding BD purchases, but I know my collection will grow in time.

I can barely remember having few, I never thought I'd have so many as I have now and it'll continue to grow. I think my first was Stealth which was free with my original PS3 but I didn't have a HD tv so it was pointless. There were ones I bought during the start that were more for building the collection and were very cheap that I kinda regret buying but I don't really like selling.

I never had a lot of DVDs they were mostly TV series so I had one smallish bookcase but I now have 4 bookcases (with space for another one) and drawers at the sides of my bed can hold quite a number.

The way things are with pre-orders and general buying I'll prob reach 1000 by early next year.

I didn't imagine ever hitting 1000, well not as soon as I did. I had over 4000 DVDs, but have got rid of the ones I've upgraded (I still have over 3000). It seems like there are so many titles I do want and I will happily re-buy catalogue titles for the better quality

What blu-ray has allowed me to do, is to own a title like Wings. I've always wanted this, but never thought I would get it, and to have it on blu-ray is unbelievable. I also buy a lot more pre-orders than I did with DVD and these soon add up. What has also helped my collection grow is that a lot of the US releases are region free, where the DVD wasn't. I've been able to buy Kino titles, such as all the Keaton ones which may not get released over here, unless MOC pick them up, and they seem so much more special than if they were on DVD. I am also buying from labels I never thought I would such as Kino and Twilight Time

I remember just having Batman and Batman Returns both were £ 9.99 from Blockbusters and I did not even have a HD TV then. But I was saving up for one. Now I have 325 Blu Rays.

Yeah, right now compared to most people here on the forums!

I really cant see it getting beyond 250 though. I only buy films I really like on blu and Ill quickly sell anything that I dont like anymore for whatever reason (Sunshine was a recent example of this).

I do remember when I only had a handful of Blu-rays/HD-DVDs. I also remember forking out ridiculous amounts of money for crap films (as you do ) just to see what the PQ was like.

I've got about 80 titles that I need to sell, so I can't really see me ever hitting 400. Also the novelty has worn off so I'm buying fewer discs nowadays.

Yeah and it wasn't that long ago, funny thing is I said I would only replace my favourite films.
This time last year I owned about 50,now my collection is over 200,that is well over my "favourite films" total.
But I am enjoying buying them and of course enjoying watching them so long may it continue.

I was just looking for a film to try out on my new PS3 and that was the cheapest one they had!

After watching it I realised why...

I remember when I got Casino Royale free with my PS3. That was the only one I had for a quite a long time actually. It was only until 2008 where I started buying Blu-rays.

I seem to be buying more Blu-rays each year.

I'm surprised you weren't tempted sooner as that disc look's pretty frigging class on Blu-ray.

I think Blu-ray's are like hairs on your chest.* One minute you're smooth like a peach (apart from that one hair you call Trevor) then the next minute you're wondering where the hell that rug came from.

And where the hell did Trevor go? Is he the Rug King™ or was he plucked by a newer stronger chest hair?

Of course if you're a lady you can change it to hairy legs: one day you're a Veet spokesperson the next you look like a bloody centaur....

Either way you've got to many bloody BD's to fit on your shelves!

If you looked at my chest hair, you wouldn't realise that I had a big collection
