Default DVDs you wished you never gave up

Chicken Run First Pressing- Would get the fancy DTS-ES 6.1 in the future

Star Wars Episode II Attack of the Clones- despite being a prequel, it feels like a collector's item since mine was the first DVD release

Not so much a give up as it is a misplace somewhere- Toy Story 2- with the logo plastering and one of my favorite "outtakes" being removed (only because I wanted to see a Toy Story 3 soon). Plus where in the world is the Blu-ray does it have any THX certification? I also misplaced a DVD of the first Toy Story as well.

What is yours?

So many Special Edition DVDs had better packaging than the current Blu-rays. I regret donating or selling them.

Dawn of the Dead Ultimate Edition. Hopefully I can rectify this error with the Second Sight coming next year. My Black Cauldron dvd. There’s many more but those are the first two that came to mind.

I have quite a few, but my main ones are Aniplex titles released by other studios like Funimation, ADV Films, Sentai Filmworks and Bandai.

I did not know when I sold some of mine that they would become so collectible for Aniplex Of America not willing to re-license most of them. Nor did I know that if they did they would cost like double the amount or even triple. Before Aniplex Of America came to be, I just assumed that those shows could get re-licensed and released on Blu-ray or even just DVD again in a more shelf-saving release.

I had the Complete Series Set of Baccano on DVD for an example but sold it when I found out that it was coming to Blu-ray. But couldn’t afford to Blu-ray since it cost a lot more. Now I got nothing.

The German X-Rated Kult DVD of Caligula II.

The movie was freaking awful but I loved the representation.

What's on the first Chicken Run release? I might have that.
And for Toy Story 2 are you talking about the outtake with Pete the Prospector telling the two Barbies he can get them jobs?

Zero. I never “upgraded” to BD if it didn’t have a superior PQ & AQ presentation. Or else what’s the point?

I sold a TON of Blu-Rays and DVDs, like probably between 1,500-2,000, while I was in the throes of an active addiction problem. It could have been a lot worse, I suppose. I could have continued using and lost my whole collection. Anyway, obviously I regret getting rid of those. And I swear...practically every time I decide I want one of those movies back and I start checking out prices online, the sumb****es are out-of-print and commanding prices of $100+, while the movies I decided to keep are worthless. Serves me right.

I once sold a bunch of seasons of The Shield for cash just so I could get some extra cash towards buying Bioshock. A little while after I had an itch to rewatch the show and of course couldn't.

I also had a special edition dvd of Saw, which had a dope ass cover that had pockets of blood that floated around if you titled the dvd case.

I had that, too. The liquid inside dried up after a while and got nasty, so you're not missing anything.

Nothing that I can think of off the top of my head, really.

I typically don’t get rid of anything unless I’m REALLY sure that I don’t want it anymore.

Exorcist III.

Compared to Scream Factory's Blu-ray release, the DVD's remastered Dolby Digital 5.1 surround track was significantly more aggressive and directional.

Regret that I sold it with a bunch of other DVDs-replaced-by-Blus rather recently...

I have a DVD copy of The Hills Have Eyes with the blood packet slipcase...the "fluid" in there hasn't dried out after all these years!

None. I never give up a dvd I like until a better release comes along. And sometimes I still hang on to the dvd if it has different extras,....

A bootleg copy of Criterion's Videodrome. My father bought it for me off Ebay in 2007 for Christmas because he didn't know any better.

I later got the official release just months before CC announced the Blu-ray release.

The Gold Collection edition of Robin Hood (Disney). It's becoming super rare these days.

With around 8500 movies, that still sounds like an 'active addiction.' At least you're self-aware about it with your username.

I'm sitting here, head in hands because years ago I wanted to help my parents out by letting them have my previous DVD copies as I either upgraded to a better edition, or picked up the blu-ray. Not just the packaging, but those 5.1 audio tracks on some, plus I just started having an interest again in 4:3 and fold out cases.
