Default No picture from HDMI Blu-Ray player to DVI-D with HDCP monitor

There's no picture when I connect a Blu-Ray player with HDMI out to a computer monitor with DVI-D with HDCP monitor? I'm assuming I need to change the settings of the Blu-Ray player. I've been able to successfully connect other HDMI devices to this monitor. Ideas?

The Blu-Ray player is a Panasonic DMP-BDT110 using a 1.4 HDMI cable attached to a Samsung Syncmaster 931BW monitor via a DVI-D/HDMI connector. I've tried setting it to both 1080p and 780p with no luck.

Here are the monitor's specs:
Horizontal 31 ~ 81 kHz
Vertical 56 ~ 75 Hz
16.7M Colors (8bit)
Optimum resolution 1440 X 900@60 Hz
Maximum resolution 1440 X 900@75 Hz
Input Signal, Terminated
DVI Compliant Digital RGB,

1. If the monitor is not HDCP compatible then that would be one of your problems. No where in the Samsung instruction manual online did I see HDCP listed. I do see the CNET specs mention its HDCP but that might be incorrect.
http://reviews.cnet.com/lcd-monitors/samsung-syncmaster-931bw-lcd/4507-3174_7-32462704.html

2. The other issue could be a problem with the 24pin 3-row DVI-D connector you are using (HDMI to DVI-D adapter). But since you mentioned that other HDMI devices work fine that most likely is not the issue.

3. Try another brand of Blu-ray player in case there is a handshaking problem with the monitor. A firmware update to the Blu-ray player might also fix some handshaking issues.

4. In your monitor specs the only resolution supported is 1440 X 900 at 60Hz and 75Hz. A US Blu-ray player can output 60Hz but it is not able to output 1440 X 900. Standalone Blu-ray players output 1920 X 1080P, 1920 X 1080i, 1280 X 720P, 720 X 480P, and 720 X 480i. Also Blu-ray players output 59.94Hz which is not exactly 60Hz which could be causing the issue if you monitor needs exactly 60Hz.

So if your computer monitor really is HDCP compatible the problem appears to be that the monitor was designed to receive a signal from a computer graphics card which can output 1440 X 900 at exactly 60Hz or 75Hz. I a guessing the other device you had connected to this monitor was a signal from a computer’s HDMI output? If so then purchasing a Blu-ray computer drive (BD-ROM) would be the ideal solution if you want to use the computer monitor to watch Blu-rays.

I'm assuming the monitor uses HDCP. My upscaling DVD player works on the monitor and it requires HDCP. Also, the Samsung box states it uses HDCP. And this document also verifies it.

I updated my Blu-ray player's firmware, but that had no effect. I also switched cables and set the player's output to 720p with no effect. Is there another setting that I could be missing?

DVD’s are native 480i. Is your upscaling DVD player scaling to 480P, 720P, 1080i, or 1080P? Try setting your Blu-ray player to 480i or 480P. It might just be a handshaking issue between the Blu-ray player and the Samsung monitor. It sounds like you are getting no picture at all. The solution might be to purchase another brand of Blu-ray player that will not produce the same handshaking problems.

Also verify your Blu-ray player HDMI output is working by connecting it to another HDMI display.

Thanks for the advice. I've given up. I forced my upscaling DVD player to output at 1080p and still was able to display it. I also set the Blu-ray player to 480p with no results. I'll just chalk up this up as the player being incompatible with the monitor.
