There are many concert DVDs available to choose from. It depends on your personal favorite artist, and the genre of music you prefer. Other people's choice of music, may not be appeal to you, or you just don't like that particular artist.

On the DVD-Audio / Dual-disc side, I highly recommend the Talking Heads "Brick" box-set. Absolutely amazing set and a must have. Unfortunately, it is OOP and goes for a hefty price now.
Also, if you are a Beatles fan, I also highly recommend the DVD disc of the Beatles LOVE music in 5.1. Another must-have IMO. Finally, another easy recommendation is "Queen: Greatest Video Hits" DVD, which has two DVD discs full of Queen music videos in 5.1. |

I could try to update the first post from time to time to compile mentioned releases and aid in browsing to discover titles not on Blu-ray that might appeal to those reading the thread. Myself, I know trying to discover concert/music type releases that are on DVD but not Blu-ray can be time consuming and cumbersome using something like Discogs.com (search #1 / search #2) or various Amazon searches (search #1, search #2, search #3). Personally, I find those to be both overwhelming and yet still difficult to tell which release might be worthwhile. I have been using this search at FilmAf.com as a starting point and then trying to figure out from there what might be notable. Quote:
I am new to discovering concert releases on Blu-ray and that has lead to realizing that there are likely some very good releases on DVD only. I have found the process trying to find them tedious though. That sparked the idea that perhaps others would find this discussion beneficial also. |

I don't know you, but everyone should love Thin Lizzy. No blu rays from them as far as I know. Also there's some great DVDs of Pete Seeger's Rainbow Quest show. The ones with Doc Watson and Sonny Terry & Brownie McGhee are musts for folk and blues fans.

Setlists and performances on many of the dvds are really good. Production wise though, it's a bit of a hit and miss. Source material/mixing etc is not always up to par. I would pick up these, though: *Red Rocks - the moment they became huge *Paris 1987 (only on the Joshua Tree box I believe?). Great to have this era in colours * Boston 2000 (4:3 format, but still a good watch) *Chicago 2005 Sydney 94 could have been so much more, but I find both the audio and picture to be very substandard. Mexico 97 I never bother with, as I'm no fan of this era at all. But again; the production is far from impressive, especially considering that it's a fairly new show |
