Default what does mbps mean?

what does that mean and what does it do? i always see this on top of the black bars on blu-ray movies when i hit select on the ps3 controller and was wordering what it ment.also can some tell me what does all movie codes like that mean? like kerhz(i think thats how its spelled)

m=milli

bps=bits per second
Bps=Bytes per second.

You mean Mbps as in Megabits per second. Transfer rate.
