Ok..I've noticed that they are starting to release more blurays with just digital. These days that's really all we need and same for 4K but even though folks have mentioned that the bluray has special features which is nice. But 3 ways of watching a movie or whatever is fine but to most I would think not necessary I guess. Dvds shouldn't be included anymore. Dreamworks and Disney titles like Bugs life, brave, cars, nemo all have blu plus digital which in reality that is all you need instead of 2 discs. Thoughts on this anybody?

I think eventually it will, but the fact remains that the general public still buys a lot more DVD's than it does Blu-ray's. You can go to any major store and see people buy up DVD's a lot more than the Blu-ray counterpart, at least in my experience.

I buy the 4K version if it includes a blu-ray, otherwise I get the blu version. So I like combos. I find the DVD pretty useless though, since it seems like when I actually want to watch a particular movie somewhere where I don’t have a Blu-ray player, it’s one of the movies that I don’t have a dvd for.

i think that the DVDs is a way to encourage folks to buy the combo. once they have a pile of them then perhaps they will be enticed to get a blu-ray player and of course buy more blu-rays. whether this is needed these days or not is debatable. i prefer getting the combos as i can take the DVD damn near anywhere and be able to watch the movie while my blu stays safe at home.

If Disney had their way, yes. I think they even released a version of Black Panther that was just the blu-ray and nothing else, available at walmart. (Though I don't shop there so I haven't seen it myself.) Coincidentally Disney is also the ones that price their titles closest to MSRP and have the highest one out there apart from the boutique labels like Criterion.

not a useless coaster though. DVDs work just fine and can be used as loaners or taken on trips etc. it's not like they take up any additional room on the shelf.

The only time I mind DVDs is when they're stacked right with the BD. Then I want to find whoever picked that case and smack them in the face.

So what if they "work fine"? They're redundant. If I have a disc in HD, why would I want with an inferior version of that? I'm not a library and when I go on vacation, I'm not sitting on my ass watching movies so I don't need to take a DVD with me while leaving the blu-ray safe and snug at home. They may not take up additional room but they're a waste of plastic.
