Default Do you think Combo packs will ever go away?

Ok..I've noticed that they are starting to release more blurays with just digital. These days that's really all we need and same for 4K but even though folks have mentioned that the bluray has special features which is nice. But 3 ways of watching a movie or whatever is fine but to most I would think not necessary I guess. Dvds shouldn't be included anymore. Dreamworks and Disney titles like Bugs life, brave, cars, nemo all have blu plus digital which in reality that is all you need instead of 2 discs. Thoughts on this anybody?

I think eventually it will, but the fact remains that the general public still buys a lot more DVD's than it does Blu-ray's. You can go to any major store and see people buy up DVD's a lot more than the Blu-ray counterpart, at least in my experience.

I have a big physical collection but i've started going digital now, However on some movies its cheaper to just get the combo which includes all. I don't really care for dvd's but some studios still include them.

I buy the 4K version if it includes a blu-ray, otherwise I get the blu version. So I like combos. I find the DVD pretty useless though, since it seems like when I actually want to watch a particular movie somewhere where I don’t have a Blu-ray player, it’s one of the movies that I don’t have a dvd for.

Fact. Just check out your local Wal-Mart.

I just need bluray when I buy them. No need for them to include the DVD for me. Wish the price would drop a little if they didn't include 'em

i think that the DVDs is a way to encourage folks to buy the combo. once they have a pile of them then perhaps they will be enticed to get a blu-ray player and of course buy more blu-rays. whether this is needed these days or not is debatable. i prefer getting the combos as i can take the DVD damn near anywhere and be able to watch the movie while my blu stays safe at home.

If Disney had their way, yes. I think they even released a version of Black Panther that was just the blu-ray and nothing else, available at walmart. (Though I don't shop there so I haven't seen it myself.) Coincidentally Disney is also the ones that price their titles closest to MSRP and have the highest one out there apart from the boutique labels like Criterion.

Yeah, that was the intent... ten years ago. By this point most people who still buy DVD are sticking with DVD and are not going to pay more for a format they have no intention of using, meanwhile blu-ray buyers are stuck with another useless coaster.

I used to use DVDs to loan people movies before I gave my sister access to my VUDU account. I have almost 200 movies in there so my portable DVD player became obsolete.

not a useless coaster though. DVDs work just fine and can be used as loaners or taken on trips etc. it's not like they take up any additional room on the shelf.

The only time I mind DVDs is when they're stacked right with the BD. Then I want to find whoever picked that case and smack them in the face.

Again, Disney. They do that so often I want to scream. But at least they don't use these.

I want to set them on fire.

It really bothers me with the 4k, you're selling a premium format, you should package your merchandise better.

Hell all 3 Walmarts here only stock DVD’s as a primary, only new releases and movies only on blu ray get blus at the Walmarts here, a few random bits here and there is about all there is to break this norm.

I have no problem with combo packs, as the DVD copies make for excellent birthday and Christmas presents for friends and family.

So what if they "work fine"? They're redundant. If I have a disc in HD, why would I want with an inferior version of that? I'm not a library and when I go on vacation, I'm not sitting on my ass watching movies so I don't need to take a DVD with me while leaving the blu-ray safe and snug at home. They may not take up additional room but they're a waste of plastic.

I actually don't mind the combo packs with DVDs, then you can loan them to people and not worry about getting them back in a timely manner. If you wanted to watch that particular movie, you can still watch it.

including a DVD made it easier to convince myself that $20-25 was worth paying for Marvel movies. then they made it so you could only get the digital if you got the 3D. then the DVD only came with the 3D too. now there's no DVD and I still had to pay $20. it's annoying as hell. I'm still bitter about them not including DVD with the standard retail version of Last Jedi.
