Universal Studios Megamind vs. The Doom Syndicate (2024)

Straight-to-streaming sequel to the 2010 film.

This is something I've wanted since the first movie. Now that it's here, it looks lame. Seems like it's lacking the humor of the first movie and also some of the cast of the first movie.

That and the animation doesn't look as fluid as the first movie. Even the PS3 game had more fluid animations. You know there's something wrong when 14 years after the first film a sequel looks cheaper and worse.

Seems like the story is a bit all over the place too, at least what is shown of it.

Incredibles 2 wasn't that great but at least they had the voice cast return and the animation was on par with the first. Can't really say that about this.

I'll bet if they could have gotten Will Ferrell back, this would have been made for theatrical release

Agree with every word. What a crushing disappointment, I would have rather they didn't make this unless they got everyone back. The first one was funny as hell, I didn't even crack a smile once during that trailer.

This is a pilot movie for the Megamind Rules TV show on Peacock, absolutely none of the marketing has said this and DreamWorks and Peacock haven't made this clear - this is done by DreamWorks' TV animation division who makes a lot of their Netflix shows in which the animated shows based on their films are explicitly not canon to the movie's story so this will likely be a similar situation here

This reminds me that I need to watch the first movie again. It’s been so long. Now, where the heck did I put my DVD copy?

Not a fan of most of dreamworks based TV series and this one deserved a real theatrical sequel with the original cast. Also Monsters vs Aliens deserves a theatrical sequel as well.

Agree with that, it has a setup for multiple films and it was great (awesome in 3D as well)

So, can anyone explain the point of this?
Why did DreamWorks TV have to make a sequel when they could of had the movie division do it?
Then again, KFP4 shows that the movie division isn't always great, but at least it wasn't this lousy.

So they try to explain recasting the voice of Megamind:

https://www.cbr.com/megamind-2-will-ferrell-recasting/

2 conflicting answers in there. First they say it's down to availability and time. I disagree with that. The first film came out in 2010 now all of a sudden there's a rush and deadline that the original voice actor can't meet? Like they couldn't hold off until he was available.

Second, that it was apparently decided early on to find "fresh talent". This is most likely the real answer. Bonehead decisions that has earned this project the rating it deserves.

Its a budget issue. They got previous VAs before. They just wanted to cost cut the animation and budget, so gave it to the TV studio and got a cheaper voice cast.

I enjoyed the original, watched it multiple times despite being an adult but sadly as soon as I saw this trailer I was disappointed at the lack of the original cast & none of the humour (or budget) was there. Immediate pass unfortunately
