Default What do you do with your HT At Night.

Hello Just wondered what people do with there HT When not in use.

- Leave on Standby
- Switch off at Sockets

Im Just thinking about planning my room and wondering if i should get wireless Power Switches so i cant turn stuff off behind the screen and in the back closet where my AV is

Thanks

I have the amp and accessories switched with an A/C trigger, the rest of the gear is in standby. How much you put on switched outlets will depend on what your control system is. Using IP control meant I had to leave the Ethernet switch, the Global Cache device(s) and the pre/pro in standby. My pre/pro is a big consumer in standby (~40W), the rest of the gear is very low power in standby. They're getting better (by regulation and programs like the US's Energy Star) at making very low standby power levels (less than 1W).

When I get my HT since I plan on connecting computer sound up and TV I might standby but keep it so when I turn on the TV the receiver turns on one less remote I need to use.

I turn my Projector and subs and buttkicker off at the wall. My main rack runs through a Power Conditioner. It has a cut power option to turn off selected plugs. So I cut power to my Power Amp, blu-ray players and PS3. It leaves my Pre-amp on, remote and iTouch. I have a zone 2 setup so I don't want to cut power to my pre-amp so I can turn on and select music from another room.

Be very careful about using a wall switch for a projector. Most projectors will continue to run their fans after they shut down to properly cool the lamp. Switching off the power at the wall switch (same as pulling the plug) interrupts this process and could shorten the life of the bulb/pj. Even if you're careful about waiting until the projector is truly off, it still leaves the possibility of someone (guest) accidentally hitting the light switch - especially right after the movie if they're looking for the lights!

Oh no, I know what you mean. I always wait until the fan is stopped. My power point is near the roof. So no one can play with it.
One of the other reasons I turn it off at the wall, is so it can't get turned on by remote accidentally. Then I will have to wait for an hour before turning it back off. I run my projector for a minimum of 2 hours at a time. It is interesting with my latest projector I have used it all day, like 8-10 hours and it's not very hot. Gone up to 1900 hours on the first lamp and it was still bright. I use that as a backup. 2nd lamp is up to 1200 hours with no issues and still very bright. So far very good.

I let my power conditioner turn off my sub, back lighting, HD-DVD. I leave my Oppo, TV, receiver and media player on standby. I can see through my power conditioner how much power is being used and it's ok like this.

Since my HT is downstairs, and that's all that's down there everything gets turned off when not being used. All of my equipment is on separate switches and/or breakers from a panel. The sound rack and Epson 5010 is on a single switch but the 35mm equipment is on separate breakers. My main panel has 220V single phase so I have plenty of amps to power all the equipment.
