Default Disney Virtual Vault – What the eff is is and how the eff does it work?

In hope of getting some clearer and more honest answers than I'm likely to get from Disney themselves:
  • If I buy a USA version Blu-ray Disc, is possible to use it to access the Virtual Vault extras from within the UK?
  • For those who don't have a BD player that can connect to the internet itself (or at least nowhere on it to plug in an Ethernet cable), is there any way of accessing these extras you've paid for access to, for example viewing them on a computer? Other than the obvious one of illegally getting a rip of an earlier DVD edition…
I suspect from the unanimous dislike for this feature, which is the only aspect of it that's been clearly conveyed to me, that the answers aren't going to be in the positive but thought I should at least ask before going into a complete sulk.

Likely not--It's part of BD-Live, which seems to be confined to North America, though not sure.
And yes, we hate it too...We thought even they gave it up after Fantasia/TLK, and the death of BD-Live in general, but someone hadn't sprinkled the stake with holy water.

I can only answer your first question - I was able to access the Virtual Vault from outside the US without any problem, using my PS3 anyway...

No idea about your second question as I don't have a Blu Ray drive on my computer.

Hope this somewhat helps...

Here's what I read off the dvdizzy review of Fantasia. Appearently the virtual vault is stuff that's on the disc but needs a key to open it, and the bd-live comes in as the key. That's just how I look at it though, I mean it may be useless but better than nothing

If the content is on the disc, why does it have to stop to buffer? It's definitely streaming over the internet or this wouldn't be necessary.

That's where it gets strange. I was the one who did the DVDizzy review on the Fantasia set, and when accessing the data files for screencapping purposes, I found that all of the BD-Live content had been authored on the actual disc. That really confused me since it's obvious the content is streaming when viewed via BD-Live, but there they were - all the archival video features easily accessible as video files on the disc itself. I haven't pulled up the source files, yet, for Lion King or Pocahontas to see whether their DVD supplements are likewise on the discs themselves.

That was you? I guess I read your reviews all the time!

That was definitely the impression I got--
I haven't stuck my Fantasia 2K in to see whether I can still access "Toot Whistle Plunk & Boom" (in a tiny streaming windowbox) two years later, or whether it was just permanently loaded to my PS3 hard-drive, but it ain't on the disk.
Thought space issues was the idea of doing the VV in the first place.

When playing it back on BD-Live, the shorter features seem to stream. But the 2 longer documentaries on Fantasia play right off the disc as they played right away.
