Default "Lowprice" Blu-ray burner in August

BenQ will release a dual layer Blu-ray writer in August at 799€ incl. VAT.
As far as I can see this is somewhat cheaper than what other companies have in their pipelines, - still not something that makes me think cheap though.

cheaper how?
i think other devices werent more than $1000, this 800 euro is pretty much the same.
right now i'd probably be willing to pay $500 for one such toy, even knowing that its slow and unpolished yet. (at half the real price, i guess you can call me half an early adopter wannabee )
since they make me wait though, i wont buy one before it reaches $300.

im getting to hate their delays quite a lot now... i may even end up boycotting bluray until a recorder costs $80

EDIT: bah, this thing doesnt even support duallayer BD burning. not worth a dime. (http://www.dailytech.com/article.aspx?newsid=3142)

out of curiousity, what's the burn-time for blu-ray disc right now?

i would imagine that it's probably got to be maybe a 2x drive, which, if it's relative to the total disc capacity would translate into something like an hour per layer, wouldn't it?

maybe i'm off here, but i can't imagine that it would be very speedy.

to me that's the real drawback of newer burners. higher price for lower performance. in a manner of speaking.

i suppose it would still most likely beat the fastest dvd burners.

Yeah it will beat the fastest dvd burners once the burning software gets programmed right. But yeah hour or 2 for a disc. SL
