Default Best movie database software.

ok, I've used movie collector 5.6 for YEARS and it's always been fantastic for me. never upgraded because the owner is a JACKASS and cut out all the 3rd party databases like DVDempire and IMDB etc from his sources and only uses his very very crappy personal database for movies. NOW 5.6 no longer connects to DVDempire (I'm wondering if it's just dvdempire switching it's linking process) but I can no longer get info on movies from DVD empire and was wondering if someone knew of a way to update the scripts or what other database software I can use that's as good or better than Movie collector. specifically I want 3rd party sources and not just a company's database (tried DVD profiler and was VERY unimpressed)

Was going to recommend DVDProfiler, but seems as if you're not a fan. I use it, and love it. Love how you can customize it, lock down all the data you want. IMO the data there is better than DVDEmpire or IMDb, but to each his own.

I look around time to time, play around with a few but always go back to DVD Profiler.

yeah, it feels way to bloated, too many wild images etc. I like movie collectors much more concise feel, while still staying away from being text based. I wouldn't MIND switching to DVD profiler if I HAD to, but don't really wanna spend $30 (most of my software is GNU based) after wasting so much money on MOvie collector (only to have him f@ck us with the databases )

one thing I DON"T like about DVD Profiler is that you HAVE to update your software to the latest version, otherwise the movie downloading capabilities down't work. that's what I like about movie collector, I had version 5.6 for 4 years and never had to update it to get full funcitonality

I have never understood how anyone likes using that site. The cataloguing system here is much better. Although the DVD section is certainly lacking since it hasn't been around as long.

But to each his own, I know a lot of people like DVDAF.

I try to keep both this site and DVDP up to date. This is much better for online viewing, but DVDP is much more powerful.

DVDProfiler all the way! I also have the iOS version and I can sync my database on my computer with the one on my iPad.

For the web, I also update my collection here and on DVDAfficionado.

I use DVDAF and I have the DVDProfiler app on my phone. One thing I will say about DVDAF is that they always, without fail, have any title I look up to add to my collection whereas DVDProfiler has a lot of missing titles. Another thing that really makes me mad about DVDProfiler is that I paid $8.99 for their app, but that doesn't allow me the luxury to submit a title to help expand their database. To have that privilege, I have to pay the full price for their online software which I think is bulls**t. I really wish DVDAF had an app. I'd dump my DVDProfiler app in a heartbeat. Too many missing titles. Sure, you can add a custom entry to your collection in their app, but you can't add the artwork. And their customer service? Non-existant. Ridiculous.

I use an iOS app called Movie Manager by Sort It Apps on the iPhone App Store. Best catalog I have seen, hands down. Has obscure formats like CED and an excellent international DB.

I think that is because it is a PC app configured for iPhone/iPad. Someone has to submit a profile (UPC) for a title to exist. US based releases are covered pretty well, but other regions not so much so... I know because I am have submitted hundreds of Canadian profiles within the last year.

I really still don't get the love for DVDAF.... Everything about their site is crap!?!?!

I agree. Foreign releases are extremely sparse on DVDAF.

I use XBMC but that's because I wanted a software in which I could store theatrical trailers in. Couldn't find a movie database that could. When guests come over I can play trailers for them so they can pick a movie.

I use this site and mymovies on ipad. It's scans the barcodes well on ipad and shows cover art and the like. You can just download the program to your PC too and add and see all your stuff there too. Only issue if if you get it on ipad you also have to still buy t it on the iphone or in my case the touch.

I'm happy with it. Here is my stuff.

I like to use iCollect Movies on my iPod. It's simple, customizable, and fast when scanning the barcode. The only problem I can think of is the loading time. It takes about 25 seconds to load my movies, can't imagine what it would be like with almost 2000 movies...

Takes about 2 min for me with 1500 movies in my collection.

I'm a Mac user and have been using DVDpedia for years now. They also offer an iOS app which is great for synching your collection to iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. I use it's export feature to post my collection to my website which is quite handy and comes with quite a few templates as well.

You can add movies manually or with an iSight camera. The data base offers tons of fields and you can view your collection in a few different ways, including graphs, CoverFlow and List.

If you like it, they offer similar apps for Books, Games and Music. Yes, I'be got them all.
