PS3 Cache question

In the PS3's internet menu, one of the things it lists is 'Delete Cache' - anyone know what deleting the cache affects and doesn't affect? You can erase history, cookies... but what does this option actually take out? Wanna know before I do it and find out I've wiped out important files.

I don't know what's stored in there, but they wouldn't give you the option to do it so easily if it would harm the functionality of the system. If anything, it might just be getting rid of any left-over data that is plugging up the information portal that is utilized by the CPU to transfer quick processing to the browser. I'm not an expert, but I do know that I've done it a few times and it hasn't affected my system.

Deleting the cache won't hurt anything, but it also won't really help anything much. It's essentially the same as deleting the browsing history in internet explorer. (oh god, did I just compare the PS3 to a microsoft product??) Every browser "caches" information (pictures, html files) in order to re-load pages you've been to before faster, this is the information you'd be deleting.
