Well, just caught wind of this that Paramount Studios has acquired Mclintock and that they had set the release date for May 13th, 2014. This isn't the same release as the Olive Films Blu-ray.
http://digitalbits.com/columns/my-two-cents/022414_1500 Hopefully, this will have a lower retail price attached to it. ![]() BTW, didn't Paramount originally have the rights to this film when they released that collector's edition on DVD a few years back? |

wow, fantastic news! This should be a huge improvement over the very average Olive release.

It should at least re-introduce all the missing bonus features though. |

Yeah. I'm glad I didn't purchase the Olive Films release as well. I had been expecting Paramount to release the film for a long time now, since way before Olive acquired the rights to the film. I'm hoping for a new remaster.

This is the only problem I have with Olive is the lack of special features. I will get this even though I have the Olive release just for the special features and if the PQ is good I'll unload the other one.

This film has had an interesting home video history. During the VHS and subsequent DVD days, this film was first available in one version, only to get a later release in a much better quality version. There was an inferior version that was available for years on VHS from a company called Good Times Video. They would release films that the majors, for some reason, did not release. In the case of Mclintock, the print was inferior with a washed out look and scratches. A company called MPI eventually released what they called "The John Wayne Estate Authorized Version" which was of a much higher quality from what appeared to be a restored print that was 100% better than the Good Times version. Later there was an Wayne Estate Authorized version of Hondo, also from MPI, although unlike Mclintock, Hondo was not previously available. I am hoping that, like before, this Paramount release will have a better quality transfer than the Olive version, although the Olive version isn't bad.

I would imagine that it's being released by Paramount. The write-up at Digital Bits clearly talks about the John Wayne Epic Collection being distributed by Warner Brothers but that later in the article, Digital Bits mentions Mclintock separately, in a different paragraph. Here's the exact text:
Speaking of Paramount and John Wayne, the studio has also set McClintock! for Blu-ray release on 5/13. This film has already been released on Blu-ray by Olive Films, so this appears to be a new acquisition for Paramount. |
