Default subwoofer vol control problem

I did a search but couldn't find anything about this.
im not allowed to buy a decent sub because the kdis have one for me for xmas.. so i picked one up for $10.00,its KLH E10 (100w),it will do till xmas.

Anyways, when i move the volume know on the sub the bass sometimes goes and i either have to give the know a tap or move it slightly till it connects.
Could it be the connection inside is loose?
(once its going its great, cant wait to get my new one )

The volume knob turns a potentiometer. They get dirty and the contact breaks at certain points where it is the dirtiest. There's usually a crackling sound when this happens. Go to Radio Shack and get a can of DeoxIT and spray some into the potentiometer body. There's usually an opening to spray it into.

The only opening i have on the sub is the hole in the front .
The control panel on the back is removable,,would i need to unscrew that to get to the potentiometer body ?

Yes you need to remove the panel with the volume knob to get to the potentiometer.

Ok great, thanks for the info...ill go off to the local radio shack and pick up a can,,if they dont have Deoxit, their own brand or contact cleaner would work too?

You can also try turning the sub off and running the control back and forth over its full rotation 5-10 times. This often works good enough.
