I'm looking to buy the first couple of Halloween movies and wondered if anyone could advise which editions are the best to get.
I can play US discs so region locked releases are not a problem. Many thanks in advance! ![]() |

The German release of 'Halloween' from Concorde is slightly superior to Anchor Bay's release, Hasn't got the crushed blacks and has DTS-MA audio.
Screecaps comparison here: http://caps-a-holic.com/hd_vergleich...ID=949#auswahl I've got both and much prefer the look and sound of the German edition, One of my most watched BD's ![]() Universal's Halloween II has a better transfer to the new Scream Factory release (Which is locked anyway), SF over did it with the DNR knob! |

Thanks for your input! Looks like the German one is available for a fairly decent price. But what is it like with the German subtitles etc?
If it's only a marginal difference, I might just get the UK one which can be picked up for around £6-7. |

Took another look at both of these last night, Watched the German edition 1st and then compared the UK Anchor Bay again and some scenes are hugely different. The PQ on the German version is vastly superior in all night scenes (Most of the Movie). These are no contrast issues that the AB version has either. Looks much more natural.

The differences between the Anchor Bay and Conchorde Halloween versions are odd. The Conchorde disk seems to have a bit of a green push to the color scheme which can highlight detail in dark areas (sometimes things you shouldn't be seeing). The Anchor Bay version has a red push which makes flesh tones look unnatural and there is an alteration of the original colors to the point where blues are completely washed away. Both versions can have an adverse effect on the display of blues, neither gets the black levels completely right as the AB disk has some black crush and the Conchorde disk has somewhat weak blacks. The good thing is that Trancas just did a brand new remaster for the new U.S. theatrical run, so we may see a truly faithful version soon.
