Thumbs up Starting from scratch

Well, my husband and I recently lost our house to a fire. Fortunately, no one was injured, but we lost everything. So we got a new place and we're starting over and of course, the home theater is one of the very first things we want to set up.

This will be the place:

We'll call that the canvas. For the screen went for a Sony Bravia Full HD 60-inch 240Hz which seems to be the right size. I've seen some people here going for 90 inches or more, and that seems like a bit much for me, so we went for 60 inches.

It's on the floor right now:

We've been painting our house, so we probably won't start setting up our home theater until saturday or so. For the A/V receiver, I want to get a 7.1 system, but my husband thinks we should go for the 11.2, which for me, quite honestly, sound a bit like overkill.

Maybe if the room was bigger it would make sense, but it's 18 ft x 15 ft approx., and in a room with those dimensions, would 11.2 really make a huge difference?

What do you think?

sorry about the fire, glad you guys are alright and have the ability to start over....we know many don't get that chance.

ok, i think if you can swing it go for the 11.1 or better make it 11.2 just make sure you get a receiver that has amp support for 11 channels onboard.

i say, do it now so you don't have to think about doing it later after the fact. if nothing else, get the wiring infrastructure in place; you can always choose not to use it right away but it's all ready for you should you choose to later. the 11.2 receiver is a must though!

good luck, keep us posted.

I'm also sorry to hear about the fire. Glad to hear you are in your new house and getting a new start. solarrdadd has some good advice. I wish I could have been there when they did the wiring in my HT room. Plenty of strategically placed 20-amp cicuits/outlets are a must.

Thanks! You're right, we consider ourselves very lucky, and now there's not really else we can do but start from scratch, but I see it as a fun challenge, you know? It will be fun.

I really appreciate your recommendation about the A/V receiver. Our last one was an Onkyo, but it was 7.1. My husband's logic is that if we're going to buy a new one, we might as well go for the 11.2.

Is the difference between 11.1 and 11.2 that noticeable? We'll go with 11.2. We found an amazing Onkyo A/V receiver which is 9.2 but can be upgraded to 11.2, it's the TX-NR1008. It's US $1,500, which is not as expensive as I thought it would be. However, I am open to suggestions!

Thank you!

Yes, we're making sure we'll have plenty of outlets. This part of moving into a new place always gets me excited.

it's just a recommendation. the .2 receiver will allow the calibration of two subs independent of each other which is better for where they might get placed in the room.

best of luck to you guys.

I really doubt the 1008 is 11.x, my 1009 isn't. For 11 channel processing You need to go with a denon 4311 denon 4520, or onkyos new 3010 or 5010 , also integras new higher end receivers and prepros are 11.x , I'm sure there are plenty of other brand That process 11channel But they are going to be pricey as they are mostly this years models.
