I just realized that my PS3 is version 1.5. I did what the SONY website directed using my memory stick. I crated the PS3 folder, then created the UPDATE folder inside the PS3 folder.
I put the memory stick in all 4 of the USB ports in the front of the PS3. When I got to system update, I choose media storage device, it tells me there is no applicable software to update. Help! ![]() Does the PS3/UPDATE folder have to be the only thing on the memory stick? |

No the ps3 update doesn’t have to be the only file. If that doesn’t work, try formatting the memory stick and start the procedure from scratch. Follow step by step the instructions on the Sony website. Good luck. |

I have never had any problem updating the firmware online. That is your best bet, I have never tried it from a portable media device.

When burning to CD, you must make sure you burn using the ISO9660 with Joliet protocol. I know Roxio does not normally follow this so I would recommend using Nero Burning ROM which allows you to change the protocol.

I've done the updating with a USB memory stick, full of other folders and files
PS3UPDAT.PUP file inside UPDATE folder inside PS3 folder at the root level I think it's called of the USB memory stick, meaning you open the F: or whatever drive and you see the PS3 folder there: F:\PS3\UPDATE\PS3UPDAT.PUP |

Yup create those folders exactly on the USB drive. If you are having problems then make sure your USB drive is readable. Try a full format of it, and download the update again from Sony.
PC Update - Visit eu.playstation.com for the very latest version of the update data. Follow the on-screen instructions to download to your PC. To transfer the update data to your PLAYSTATION 3, save the file to a PS3 compatible storage device such as Memory Stick, Memory Stick Duo, USB drive or PSP. Before starting, use your PC to create a folder named 'PS3' on the storage media or USB device. Within the folder, create a folder named 'UPDATE' (This folder name is case sensitive and must appear in all capital letters). Once the UPDATE folder has been created, download the PS3 system software update to this location. Once the update data has been saved, disconnect the storage device and connect it to your PS3 via the slots under the slot cover or the USB connectors depending on the device you're using. Once connected, navigate to Settings on the PS3 Home Menu, select [System Update] and then [Update via Storage Media]. Select the connected device and your PS3 will install the update data stored there. That is fine if your PS3 is connected to the Internet. Last edited by stringent; 10-09-2007 at 01:35 PM. |

This is exactly what you need to do. I have done every update since I bought my PS3 (March) this way and never had a problem. |
