Default Home Theater 10x12 Room, Any One Done This?

I have a spare room and yes size is a issue, 10x12. I tried searching the forums and haven't really found any thing similar to this size with projector and or full room makeover with paint carpet etc.

Has anyone done this in this small of a room? I have a few ideas but was wanting to see some pics of similar setups for ideas.

Room is 10x12

Has two windows which will be blacked out somehow

Components will be hidden in a closet

Thanks

I would take a look at a few of the smaller build threads over on AVS. You will be able to do it, but most likely, the projector will be directly overhead and the screen size won't be as long as you think since you have limited throw distance.

Was there a specific projector you were planning to use?

Nothing yet but maybe 80" screen would be fine, any suggestions on the projector?

You've got plenty of projectors to choose from. A budget would help narrow it down. You've got different technologies to consider as well. For a couple of examples you could consider the Epson 3010 (Around $1500) or this years model the 3020 for a little more. A 10ft throw on this projector would give you a 104" diagonal. The Panasonic 7000 (Around $2500) or this years model the 8000 for a little more would be another option and at 10ft would produce a 102" diagonal.

I suggest heading over to projectorcentral.com and reading through their Top 10 3D Projector list and then playing with the projector calculator on the models that interest you. They will tell you how big of a screen you can get with the throw distance you have.

Also a picture of the room may give us some more data for some suggestions, so we can see where the window placements are and the closet and doors.

$1500 is def in the price range, as far as budget goes no more than 2k as I already have my audio system in mind and that would not be in the 2k and all materials to build will be taken care of as well as long as it dosen't get crazy as well as tools. So mainly I need seating, screen, projector, and general ideas layout options. I will get a pic of room posted.

The closet would be a breeze for me, I actually do IT work for a living just never tackled a home theater yet. All the wiring I have down pat just not sure on the layout/best options.

Ignore the mess, The main wall to the left the in first photo is where the screen will be and it's 10 ft and I will frame it out with a thin wall to cover or will look into other options you guys suggest. Perfect audio is not a goal since this is my first build.

Window to right will be covered with light blocking curtains or blinds or any other ideas you guys might have as well. Looking at dark blue or black paint on walls and carpet I'm not sure yet what I want to do. Also the closet in the picture is not the one I will be using for the equipment.

After looking at my pictures is this still a good project to do?

Is this room in a apt or a house? If its a house then you can do what you want. If you are renting you are some what limited but if you make any changes then you change them back.

I would not frame the wall that the screen will be on. I would do a fixed screen with wilsonart laminate. If you are concerned with light penetrating the screen you can do blk velvet or velveteen on the back and of course cover the sides etc.

This way is easy if you have to convert the room back to normal. Its a lot quicker and easier than framing out wall etc.

Since you wk in IT hopefully you have access to a projector. I would use the projector and go for the biggest pic you can on that wall. Frame it with tape and see if meets your needs.

Glad to be of assistance. That's one of the main things I love about this forum. Unfortunately I don't have a thread as of yet. I wk in IT as well. I also assist one of my best friends when his HT install company does installs in my area etc.

I originally saw the idea for the wilsonart projector screen on AVSForum. It wasn't until I started exploring the idea of setting up a screen in my apt that I came across the wilsonart screen used here on the forum by Snowball_iv

His build thread is here...https://www.blu-ray.com/community/ga...&folderid=1884

Good luck with your room.
