Default Free Heroes with XBox add-on - Toshiba is now PAYING people to get into HD DVD

Next week, best buy has the Xbox 360 addon for 179 with the 5 free mail in movies AND you get Heroes on HD DVD free immediately (and it will count on nielson).

So, lets break it down:

5 movies free = 29.95 MSRP each (some higher) x5 = 150

Heroes HD DVD = 99.99 MSRP

So you get 250 bux in movies for buying a drive for 179. Wow.

It will minimally help the format, if any.

What's funny is that with the add-on they are including a free HD DVD set that has documented problems with the Xbox add-on. Couple that with the skipping and problems with their biggest title of the year, Transformers, which surely most will get when buying the add-on and you have a great ad campaign.

I'd be very tempted if that was the deal with a Stand alone. Too many issues with the add-on plus the crippled audio which I know I'd miss...

I've heard that. Does every add-on have problems with Heroes, or just some? Are the problems consistent (like a certain spot on a certain disc)?

Also, besides the 5 by mail and Heroes, there is the King Kong disc in the box. My local Best Buy has had around 6 copies of Heroes for a while and I wondered who they were going to sell them. This seems like it will be effective.

Yeah I think it is possibly related to overstock of Heroes as much as anything.

Those '$80' box sets don't fly off the shelves ...???

I believe the issues were with the internet side of things.

You know, the standard interactivity that all HD DVD players have complied with since the beginning of time

HD-DVD stock needs to be discounted, this is for sure a fire sale by the HD-DVD side. They are now paying people to get into HD-DVD. It really is sad & I would be pissed if I was an HD-DVD owner especially if I would've bought Heroes S1. I am hoping this move will only help Best Buy get rid of HD-DVD and really start pushing Blu-Ray for the holiday rush!!

Thumbs down HD DVD tries to counter Blu-ray this weekend

Best Buy: Oct. 21-27: "Heroes: Season One" HD DVD FREE with Purchase of XBOX 360 HD DVD Drive!

Per some leaked scans of Best Buy's October 21st retail ad, this coming week you'll be able to get Heroes: Season One on HD DVD for FREE instantly with the purchase of a new Xbox 360 HD DVD player. The free Heroes HD DVD offer (which is valued at $99) will go into effect this Sunday and piggybacks the five free HD DVD offer and King Kong movie that's already included in the box. So, as things stand, you can now get the player, King Kong, Heroes and five other movies for $179. This week may be just the time to jump into the HD DVD world, especially if you're a Heroes fan.

Be careful with your posts. Because of that dotted line that you created I didn't notice that what was written below it was part of the post. I thought it was signature. It wasn't until I went to reply with a quote that I realized you weren't actually advertising HD DVD. I agree that this thread should be deleted. It's still giving the impression that it is trying to persuade people to actually consider HD DVD. Besides, there are still a lot of HD DVD fans that read these forums and we don't want them to know about it if we can help it.

If you return it, they'll want Heroes back.

And if not, let us all know.
