Default Mods, and Members.

hey,

First off i would like to say a Thank you to all the Mods, in this forum. secondly, i do have a concern. Similar Topics, and discussioons are all over the place. I know the Moderators are trying to do their best to keep up, but there is way to many of those forum. First I would like to ask all members to use the search engine, to find if similar topics/discussion is available before posting a new thread. I and i am sure several other members find it frustrating when all i have to see are discussions about Paroumount, Best Buy, Circuit City, target discussion is going on. like right now I see many forums about Best buy, and BOGO FREE TOPICS "BUY ONE GET ONE FREE". I think that similar topics should be all in one big fat discussion. Not all over the place. Some discussions i find very interesting/educational, and i would like to see more of those. Secondly, Mods. Is there a way to improve the search engine to recognize something about a certain topic. or some kind of a software update where certain topics is joined automatically into an existing one. I have had it occur to me once or twice where i search for a topic didn't find it, and then ended up starting a thread that exists.

Thanks.

While I agree with your post, I think the size of the forum is part of the problem

Just try doing a search for "best buy" to see what I mean.

agreed the search is so vast that you hardly ever find what your looking for unless you have alot of time on your hands and the patience to go through MULTIPLE threads to find what you want

We endeavour to keep some control, however we don't want to go overboard as this has a number of other problems associated with it We get plenty of complaints from members thinking we have deleted their threads etc.

We are working on a few things, but everything takes time.

I agree with you it can be pain searching for things and I would prefer fewer threads, but it is a real balancing act between being a police state and mayhem.

We will happily consider all suggestions, so please feel free to suggest away. Newton's law (modified) does still apply - for every suggestion there is an equal and opposite suggestion, so your suggestion may not be implemented.

I tried to point out the same thing with my thread yesterday on this forum:
https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=20555
I was pointed to another thread where it had been disucussed but I still don't understand the response.

Next time use the search engine!

seriously though these threads just get out of hand... like personally i make a thread when im bored (unless its something i really need help with or want to share)
like... i've made threads about who is a better superhero... the coolest ninja turtle... facebook or myspace...

To give you an example. Today I've probably merged half a dozen "360 addon w/free Heroes" threads. 3-4 "Transformers has no LFE"

When BOGO hit, it was more like 6-8 threads an HOUR. I lost count.

There is some kind of software that does search for similar threads and asks "Here they are, do you really need a new one?", but apparently it's not for our forum package.

I have a feeling half the people would click "yes" anyway

To me posts liek that are great and what we should have. It allows the community to bond a bit. The thing is they get trounced by things that are sensationalistic. Like : "Xbox 360 getting an HD-DVD drive".

Make a few more forums. We are like a city and all we are doing is building up. It's time to open another place to go. I don't know if they think people won't use it or what. I GUARANTEE that if the forum is critical of HD-DVD it will attract a lot of people who want to rant and don't because it's page 160 of a thread.

There is a mod download for vBulletin boards like the one WickyWoo mentioned, but they haven't been implemented to the forum as of yet. Would definitely cut down on the new topics though.
