Default PS3 Vs Elite: What HiFi mag review

For those outside the UK, What Hi Fi is the biggest selling AV magazine in the UK. In the latest issue they ran a review of the Xbox360 Elite + HD-DVD add on.

They weren't impressed.

"performance disappoints. HD DVD pictures, while certainly better that SD, display more digital noise, worse motion handling and weaker colours than any of the standalone (HD-DVD) players tested"

Limp sound, with no HD audio support. It's a half baked attempt to match the PS3's do-it-all ability. They finish by saying "if movies are very important to you, look elsewhere"

What HiFi gave it 2 out of 5 (remember they are looking at it from an AV perspective)

But what about the PS3? Last month they gave it 5 out of 5 "unlike the 360 this is a committed all-rounder and it's a more advanced blu-ray player than most standalone units"

Says it all.

The PS3 also picked up a 2007 award. Best HD player I think.

The Pioneer LX70 won the best "Hi End" player with no HD DVD players in sight.

Come on BLU

It's funny that people were praising the HD DVD add-on for Xbox 360 no more than a year ago. Now they're seeing that PS3 is better.

Cleary Hi Fi has sense. I've thought the PS3 was a better machine from the moment I bought it. Paid £525 in March (with 3 games and a film) and have not regretted it for a moment. They could be selling them for £100 now and it wouldn't bother me how much I paid. It still bothers me that I paid £270 for the 360 and that's 2 years ago now. Bothers me more that I haven't had it since July 16th as it's STILL with M$ for 'repairs'. PS3 is the true next gen system. The 360 should have been called Xbox 1.5 as all it really has over the original is better graphics.

PS3 has always been better ever since it was a concept. Now that it's been out a while with more titles and movies to take advantage of it's technology the wait was worth it. Soon more titles, movies with more features, and it's DVR ability with really make Xbox owners do a 360 to get a PS3!

More desperation! This article reports that 500,000 HD-DVD players (including Xbox add ons) have been sold worldwide - is that all?

http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2007/10...ba_xbox_hddvd/

Anyone looking to buy this needs to be aware of What HiFi's review!!!

I will do what I can on the article later

Really? I thought the figure was 55,000 but that might have been Europe only. As for the 360 add-on, it's just too basic now. But as it's cheap I can see it still selling.
