Connecting Dual & Quad Voice Coil Subwoofer Drivers to a Mono Amplifier

The most popular types of subwoofer drivers are Single Voice Coil (SVC) or Dual Voice Coil (DVC) drives. Quad Voice Coil (QVC) drivers are also available, but they are more rare. Single Voice Coil drivers have only one Red (+) and one Black (-) input. Dual Voice Coil drivers have two Red (+) and two black (-) inputs. The following pictures are examples of SVC and DVC.

Depending on the impedance of each voice coil, you can connect the driver to the amplifier according to the following diagrams to get the desired net impedance.
