Hi all,
I've had a region free player for some time now, so thankfully I've been able to watch Criterion releases and other great US releases. I bought a cheap Technika player a while back that hasn't given me any real problems. Apart from the fact that a couple of discs don't work. Cabin in the Woods, Good Will Hunting, The Others and other Lionsgate/Miramax discs simply do not play. A brief message about an update flashes up but after that the screen stays blank. I believe that if an update was released for the player it would work, but updates are rare on that machine and one tat they did release and that I tried to install didn't work anyway. So what I'm asking is: is there another player I could buy that would be both region-free and able to play these discs? It must be a certain data type on the disc that my player doesn't like. Thanks in advance for all your replies, |

Here you can purchase either region-free players or a region-free modification.
http://www.jvbdigital.nl/jvb.asp?cur...ome&page=front I purchased some years ago a region-free modification for my Sony BDP-S500 from them. |

You could try and track down a Toshiba BDX3200KB, it can be made multi-region by installing a different firmware. It's been as low as £39 but is probably worth twice that if you can find a new one.
One of the UK members has good experience with the model (DaveSimonH) and I'm sure he'd be happy to help further with either the upgrade or playback issues. He hasn't had any so far. Toshiba have brought out a newer model but no ones tried changing the firmware on that one yet. |

Thanks for the comments. Do you have any Miramax releases? If they play on your multi-region player, then I'll look for the Toshiba one

I've bought a blu-ray player from HK, its a all region player. It works in HK TV, and fail to work in Australia. It turn on ok, THE RGB signal is also working, but the HDMI doesnt. The TV can detect the HDMI is plug in, but it only show the black screen.
So I brought back to HK, and tested it in showroom again, it works!!! Conclusion is that, it works in Hong Kong, but not Australian TV. HDMI cable 1.4, we tested it with the same HDMI cable. Both TV are new. My own TV is about 1 year old. LG LED, and sony 3 years old LCD TV. CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP. |
