India/Bollywood Jab Tak Hai Jaan

So JTHJ finally released yesterday in cinemas worldwide. I saw it yesterday evening with a bunch of family and friends.

Cinema/Theatre: ODEON Digital 8000HD, UK

PQ: good, 4/5
AQ: 3.5/5 (see below)

There appears to be a slight issue with the AQ. In some scenes, music and dialogue occur at the same time, but the music overpowers the dialogue a little. They'll need to be careful when they get round to the BD audio (7.1?).

Overall I'd say it's simply too long. I mean, if you want to make a film for the current generation, you can't expect them to sit in a hall for 3 hours plus adverts, trailers etc.

The story is mostly there, the message is there, but the film feels contrived at points and there are things happening to which you will simply say: are you serious?

SRK and Anushka really bring their characters to life. Katrina looks like she doesn't know what she's doing at some points, but heads in the right direction after her performance in Ek Tha Tiger.

The cinematography is great. The film is shot in various picturesque or otherwise interesting/vibrant places, esp in and around Jammu, Kashmir and parts of England.

Also, there are plenty of genuine laughs, mainly in the first half however. The film gets serious thereafter.

The music isn't great, just pretty good. I've maintained this since the audio release.

Verdict: above average - you probably won't love it so much if you loved Veer-Zaara;

3/5.

This should make for a good blu-ray, but I think YRF may fall into the same trap they've fallen into a lot: DNR.

Estimated DVD/Blu-ray release: late Jan to early/mid Feb 2013

Your thoughts?
