Default Culture Shock Releasing Discussion Thread

Culture Shock Releasing is the the union of Lo-Fi Video and Verboden Video. After the success of our joint release of Slashdance, we decided to merge our love of obscure cult films into one brand. Under this new name we are dedicated to bringing you the best in cult, horror, and beyond! We will be preserving movies shot on video as well as film, and releasing them on DVD and Blu-ray, respectively. There will be a heavy focus on films from the 80’s and 90’s, mixed with some outstanding contemporary genre films. We are running headlong into the future, uncovering lost gems and polishing up the classics to share with you!

The comments in this post asking about Iced were both liked by Culture Shock, so it's pretty clear unless they're trying to trick people.

How is the quality of the releases from these labels? I think they’ve released only one Blu-ray but I was considering picking up their DVDs too when I first heard about them a few months back. Their new label looks like it has some interesting titles coming.

Speculation on the Dawn of the Discs post is that the other title is Fright Night Part 2, which I REALLY hope is true.

Imagine making this statement and then leading off your new line with Zipperface and Iced.

No, Severin is releasing Raiders of Atlantis. Livid Media (who I think you're referring to) was mistaken when they said they had the rights, and we don't know what their first release is going to be. Culture Shock Releasing is a separate label.

I haven't seen either, but Iced is at least a long awaited title. Zipperface does look bad though. Might pick it up anyway to see how it is and to support a new label.

There's enjoyment in just about every film released to some degree but it's always a bit humorous to see companies issue the usual generalized statement of "We're committed to releasing the best in <insert genre or adjective here>" and then dump some really obscure all but forgotten film that up until now hasn't had a release. I'd be lying if I said I wouldn't/won't buy ICED, but it's just funny to see a company kick off their new line with titles like this when they are championing the best that the genre has to offer.

I appreciate their enthusiasm and welcome more labels just to be clear.

So we know who has the rights for FN2 now? For the longest time all we heard was that nobody knew who had the rights, and that’s why it couldn’t be released.

I wasn't aware of Iced getting a foreign DVD release, at least not an official one.

I was going to guess Mask Of Murder as the one that had an early overseas DVD release.

From comments on Instagram.

We don't think we can sell enough UHD discs to justify doing that kind of release. You wouldn't believe how expensive it is to make those discs. But the films will be scanned and restored in 4K for the maximum final quality.

In other news we will be announcing our first blu-ray release as well as the specs for Goodnight God Bless shortly so stay tuned for that!

They've got quite a lot planned it seems. Hope they don't get themselves too backed up if they're doing all the restorations in house like they make it sound.

I'm probably over exaggerating, but it sure seems like I've seen several posts like this from these guys.

My first order with Culture Shock has felt a bit like throwing my money into a wishing well. I ordered in January and received a confirmation that said I'd be notified when my item shipped, and then three weeks passed. I sent an email to ask about it and was told that my item was a preorder, which isn't indicated anywhere on the website or in the confirmation email, and that was a couple weeks ago. I'm fine with waiting, but it would've been nice to be given some information or a release date or something.
