Default Death Machine (1994) - Coming from Kino

Death Machine Blu-ray

Quote:
The year is 2003. Chaank Industries, ruthless world leaders in future weapons technology, hires a new Chief Executive, Hayden Cale. Cale soon uncovers a secret and unethical weapons project the company is involved in. Her first order of business is to shut it down. Her troubles just begin as she also tries to fire the company technological mastermind, Jack Dante—a childlike psychotic with a dark genius for exotic weapons design. Dante retaliates by unleashing into the corporate headquarters the Death Machine—the ultimate killing unit. A weapon that tracks its target by sensing fear and has the power to rip through walls with its hard steel strength and razor teeth. Cale must wage a desperate bloody battle with the terrifying force that has no mercy, no pity and no fear in this cutting-edge cyberpunk classic from filmmaker and SFX wizard Stephen Norrington (Blade, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen). Dante is played with oddball relish by Brad Dourif (Child’s Play, Spontaneous Combustion) in a cast featuring Ely Pouget (The Rift), William Hootkins (Star Wars, Hardware), John Sharian (The Machinist), Richard Brake (3 from Hell) and Rachel Weisz (The Mummy). One of my absolute favourites. Already own two copies of the German blu-ray (with different artwork) but this remaster will be a day one regardless.

Considering it's budget, I still think the practical effects are wicked. And well, it stars Brad Dourif in the most Brad Dourif-iest role of his career, so that automatically gives it eleventy-seven bonus cool points.

I'm intrigued. Is this better than Hardware, which I admittedly wasn't much a fan of?

They're not really that comparable despite being 90s scifi/horror movies. Hardware seems to have been re-evaluated as some kind of minor classic, while Death Machine seems to be considered solid genre fare at best. It's more just a dumb sci-fi slasher with some cool designs. That might be more appealing to you, who knows. But in general I'd say it has a worse rep.

I personally enjoyed Hardware. It was definitely much more artsy than I was expecting.

"Hardware" isn't a great movie but it's much better than the boring "Death Machine".

Which cut of the film would it be? There are 3 versions.
The shortened theatrical version in the US, the director's cut in the UK, and the unrated cut in Germany.

He made The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen - which was apparently an experience so awful that he never made another movie again. That same movie also resulted in Sean Connery saying "F*ck thish." and immediately retire from live action movies to go and play golf in Scotland for the rest of his life

I asked KLI about which cut would be included, this is what they had to say.

Like they said, they didn't know more than 1 cut existed so maybe's now is a good time to ask them about including the unrated cut.

I had heard a lot of good things about this, so I finally watched it about 2 years ago (no idea which cut I watched). I'm happy for the fans that this is getting released. Unless this isn't the cut that most fans want. In that case, I'm perturbed.
